Im not even a musician jeff, but i got 6 guitars, 3 basses, 4 drm kits (in the process of purchasing #5) a banjo and a cup'l horns. Isn't. THAT just ridiculous.
Give the wife the check book, and just hang with us for the fellowship and good times.Group Hug
Thank you everyone! Your all good people, I will still be around, just not as much. This computer needs to be designing cabinets big time. I really need to focus on my business.
As far as my kits go, I will keep them for now because I am in love with them, even the MIj kits. lol. But the searching for and purchasing of drums has to stop. I still have a couple kits to restore and that will take a long time, so I really dont need any new projects.
If I run into the right person, I would be glad to give them a kit. I gave one to an 17 year old kid last summer and he has really used it.
I have been blessed with some really nice jobs to do this winter/spring so I need to put aside working on and talking about drums a tad bit.
I have also wanted to get back into volunteering my time to Habitat for Humanity again. It has been two years since I donated the kitchen to a Tuscaloosa Alabama family. There is more to life than collecting and talking about drums, I need to get back to helping others, it makes me feel good.
So, if I dont see ya for a while, please have a safe, happy, healthy Christmas! And one more thing,,,
Go Bears!
In all honesty Jeff,if you ask the Rock N' Roll doctor, the PFC. of swing for a cure,he'll tell you,the only cure is more GAS.
Just when you think you've hit bottom.....start to dig. There's always another reason for another kit,....or snare drum.......or cymbal........cymbal stand.......bass drum pedal........Help2

Well, still addicted to VDF, hard to stay away. I just need to get the ebay and the Craigs List buttons off of my tool bar and stop lurking in the for sale section here. Im too interested in your projects and have made to many friends to completely go away.
Weird thread I know, it was the oyster blue jazz fest for sale here that made me start thinking about about how to free up money, that I dont have to buy it. Thanks again for all your repleys, you people are great!
jeff i am there, its weird how you can b affected , may be you can see if you can barter for your services to some one, im trying that and it looks like it mite work for me on a obp kit good luck gary
Didn't realize this thread has been around. I can really relate to it. My wonderful father passed away November 20. It was only 4.5 weeks earlier that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I went from a fairly carefree lifestyle to being a 24/7 caregiver overnight. During the ensuing weeks, I began putting my life into perspective, especially with the amount of money I spend on my drum habit. At almost 60 years old, I really don't play any more, yet I have have 2 fairly new kits (PDP X7 and the beautiful Maple Classic Downbeat), completely customized Pearl EXR from 2007 and my vintage kits; 2 Slingerland, 1 Rogers and 1 Ludwig. Add to that, over 30 snare drums of vintage and custom makes. It's ridiculous! I'm in the process of deciding what kits to sell and have taken pictures of them. It just seems so overwhelming to actually list them and then pack them up. All of you that have packed up kits know how long it takes to do it right!
The bottom line is that I understand what JC is talking about. While I certainly won't leave VDF, I know that it's time to not spend as much money as I have, plus start downsizing my collection. Many of my kits need to go to those that will play and appreciate them. My kits are sitting, unused.
Thanks for letting me vent!

Hi Jeff,
I certainly understand what you are saying. I've tried to pull back this year as well and spend less time and money purchasing and reading about/searching for vintage drums. No more eBay or Craigslist and less time at the VDF too, which has been the hardest part. I Still love all these great vintage drums of course, but boy it's easy to overdo it.
Do your thing. Enjoy life and hit those drums when you can! Stay in touch.
James
I can also relate Jeff.
I only got into buying more drums and vintage drums since 2007.
I recently retired and I'm trying to downsize here.....it's hard.....for me anyway.
13 kits is a lot. It is a fun hobby don't you think?
I would echo keep your very best = special...dear to your heart drums and maybe try parting with the rest. That way you may want to take the money you get from selling off a ton of drums/drum equipment and buy that very special snare drum or kit that you never have the money for.
Just a thought..........
In my case I know I would give almost every drum I have for a certain snare drum or two.............keeping my late 50's Gretsch kit though.
