Insurance on a drum collection? Last viewed: 4 hours ago

One of the fellows I play with has a nice studio built in his shop / garage. When I asked my insurance guy about it, he said that as long as we weren't letting others rent the studio, my kit at that location was covered under my homeowners. One of the kits is up there all the time. I do have my toys in a spread sheet and photographed and videos. Maybe it's overkill, but they won't be able to argue what they are.

Nothing is insured at a gig. The rates are insane for one night stands.

I have a grestch blackhawk kit I bought used at guitar center that I rent to the sound company my brother works for. I went to guitar center one day and saw this kit. its beautiful, even if it is made in tiawan or someplace like that. I also saw a CB floor tom sitting on the floor. I asked the salesguy if they traded for CB drums. he said yes. i had a CB drum kit at home in the garage that I couldnt hardley give away, that I aquired with a lot off of craigslist. The lot included a brand new set of Zildjian A Custom brilliant finished 14" hats, some roto toms, brand new heads for the roto toms, a 22" vintage zildjian ride, a acrolite b/o pointy, 68 luddy marchin snare, a whole set of brand new Renaissance heads, a brand new set of fiberskyn heads, and a good set of pinstrip heads, a ufo snare case, and pedals and stands and misc items. I went home and polished the cb's up real quick and took em back to guitar center. The salesguy went out to my yukon to see them. He went to his manager and the manager didnt want to trade. The CB's were in perfect shape. I was a little ****ed. They finally decided to drop the price from $360 to $180. It is a 5 piece fusion kit with all the hardware including a gibralter bouble bass pedal, so I bought em and kept the CB's. last time I rented themm to my brothers company I got $200 for a week. Im renting them next week for $100 for a day. I did replace all the batter heads with evans G2, and tung oiled the insides of the shells. I send some Sabian B 8's with them and the gibralter hardware. I finally sold the CB's for $200.

Here in the USA, union musicians have access to instrument insurance (on the job or not) for a better price.

Union huh? Where do you live? Around here bands are lucky to get 3-400 a night. Not hardly worth the effort to go to a gig.

When I was playing alot, years ago, and touring, I had ins on my stuff. It was a rider on a home owners policy. Cost either $300 /year or 6 months, don't remember.. It was full replacement....

Why are you surprised? You probably hear these union musicians everyday. I’m sure you know that there are many professional musicians playing venues other than what you’re experienced with. I am NOT making a statement about myself or the union! My comment was in regard to cheaper insurance for musical instruments is all.
