And thanks to you too for recommending the correct Puresound snares!

Not a problem, glad you're happy with the sound the original makers intended. :D

BTW....trying to get this thread back on topic after it went in a completely different direction than the original poster intended...... Sumo Dude;):p

Yeah I did, and the drum sounded good but it didn't sound any different than any of my other snare drums. With the Puresound extended snares it has a totally different sound. Very sensitive and throaty....

[COLOR="RoyalBlue"]Good info! I just visited Puresound's website and you are correct.

I may spring for a set in spite of the $$$, even though I've been content with the metal strap version on my '39 RK... probably because of the leveling adjusters I referred to earlier.

On the other hand, the Pearl would work on the RK as well... for 1/4 the price!

In the end, I went for the $7.99 Pearl set and narrowed it down to 16 strands to fit the gates.

Increased sensitivity and precision of tensioning with the cord attachment as opposed to the former wire set attached by means of metal straps... no question!... though I prefer a plastic strap at the butt end... I think it stays aligned better than would cord.

My thanks to you, Ludwig-dude,

Ron

Bringing this post back from the dead while returning it to the original topic-

The color is called "Antique Silver" lacquer. From everything I have seen/ been able to find, it appeared to only be available as part of the "Combo" set up from L&L from 1950-1952, can't seem to find the finish referenced anywhere else other than in the catalogs under available finishes for that particular configuration kit. In 1953 that configuration became only available in a white lacquer, and then any reference to the Antique Silver color seems to disappear.

I came across the kit in these pictures today. 1950 Leedy&Ludwig "Combo" outfit. I work in a shop that buys/sells/trades new and used drums. This came in off the street from the granddaughter of the original owner. All original. 5.5x14" snare drum, 14(head)x18"(depth) "Conga-Tom", 12x24" single tension bass drum, original snare stand, and original Comet pedal. Hardware is all original, down to the tension rod washers. Original calf skin resonant head on the bass drum. Edges and interiors are super clean, finish in great shape other than where it has been scratched off by the collar from drum heads.

Could stand to be detailed but it's in good shape all around, with the exception of the fact that the strainer is shot, and the conga-tom has a 2" crack in the top of it. The crack does not seem to affect it too much structurally, as I put pressure on the shell and it did not seem to budge. The bass and snare are in round, the conga tom is off by 1/4" both top and bottom.

If anyone has any idea the value, i'd appreciate the input. It's pretty much already spoken for, but I am trying to determine what exactly to do with it.

Thanks for reviving this thread. I have a recent acquisition from a forum member here and the pictures of the butt on the snare of the original post seem to be what I need. I will post pics soon.
