Tim,

I was thinking of getting some...so,not so good eh?

What is the problem with them? Too tight on the drum or shell?

Yes Stephen. Beverley and Premier all used the same Everplay heads and they were made in the factory. See reply to relayer, I think it was.

HeHe. John, I'm relayer, but I haven't asked you about heads before. Blair, I'll bet there are some Everplay heads sitting somewhere. I've got several Premier drums that I could use them for, but they're mostly from the calfskin era. Still, I'd like to get some for my Beverley.

Best.

Well, they're just not Everplays. :) The Remo Ambassadors are a thicker ply than the Everplay heads I had on my tom too. The collar was tight on the inside of the hoop groove. It eventually fit, but the collar could have been made a little smaller. The degree of taper from the the top edge of the head to the collar was also a lot, so it made the head rock back & forth and not sit flat on the bearing edge. This was not as much of an issue when I started to tighten the hoop down, but there appeared to be some dead spots while I was applying even tension among all of the rods. So some rods had to be cranked down a little more to remove the dead spots. The Everplay head did not have this problem.

Might have something to do with the particular heads I received.

Once upon a time, I had a 7-piece set of Premier Soundwaves (Resonators minus the inner shells).

The store I worked at was a Premier dealer so lots of Everplays on hand.

I'm not a fan of coated SINGLE-ply heads on the playing sides of toms...BUT...Everplays on those Soundwaves sounded magnificent, I mean Bob Clearmountain MAGNIFICENT! Especially on my 16 and 18-inch floor toms. As much as I love Remo heads (and I do. Coated Emperors on top of everything rule in my world), I could NOT get the depth of tone without the annoying flap out of a coated Ambassador that one could out of a coated single-ply Everplay.

Blair, it was called Coffman Music in Lancaster, Ohio. Tom Coffman had 3 stores in the s.e. Ohio area, long since gone. Later, I was repair tech/custom drum builder for Columbus Percussion.

Traded those Soundwaves to Coffman for an NOS WMP 12, 13, 16, 24, 7x14 set of Leedy & Ludwigs, complete with all the original unplayed calf heads still on 'em.

Hi everyone,

Can somebody tell me if drum manufacturers in the States put the wrap into the forma before or after the shell is made? In the UK the wrap goes into the forma

first of all and then the ply is added.

Cheers,

John

Hi John,

do you have any pics of inside/outside the Prem factory?

Any old literature you can share with us?

It's all still a pretty big mystery to me...electricit

thanks
