These snare beds look nothing like any Supra I've ever owned, including

my current '70s 400 and '82 (Chicago) hammered bronze 5x14 - ditto

with my Acros.

Like every Supra I've ever seen, mine have very wide and gradual snare

beds that are difficult to discern with the naked eye.

Has anyone considered that the beds on the OP's drum have been added

by a previous owner (talk about an 'OH $HIT!!' moment) or do we think

these are OEM?

At this point, the only choice seems to be to relocate the strainer and butt

to line up with the beds. They do appear to be fairly narrow so narrower

wires (12 to 16 strand) would probably work better.

You might try posting this over on DFO (drumforum (dot) org) There

are some Ludwig factory guys that hang out over there.

Ludwig doesn't have any direct Customer Service on their website, only through dealers. And since this is a used drum, all I can hope for is some advice and maybe good will 😀

that last pic almost makes it appear that its not even a snare bed, but rather some distortion on the shell or something. it looks like the bottom of the drum in that area just doesn't lay flat. strange..

Is it me or is the throw upside down ?

Hey. No, the drum is not upside down. It is just the throw hanging lose.

At first I thought as well, that the whole drum was bent. But putting the drum on the table upside down and doing the lights test shows that the top edge of the drum is completely straight and fine. The bottom edge has two what I really think are snare beds at two opposite panels. Otherwise the bottom bearing edge is fine as well.

Will post two more pics later.

Here's another shot showing the light through the bottom edge.

Move the strainer and butt plate over one panel, fill the extra holes with brass rivets, tune up your drum and enjoy it.

That snare is one of the best sounding metal shelled drums Ludwig ever made. It's 'broke', fix it, and use it. BTW, while you're moving the throw, consider using a P-86 instead of the one that came with the drum. I added a P-86 to my hammered bronze and it's solid and reliable.

Yep, that's my main thought At the moment. I will probably exchange the strainer. Let's see :-)
