if its got the large keystone badge with monroe on it, and high on the shell like you mentioned, that's most likely one of the earlier drums done after the move from chicago to monroe. Those shells were originally intended to have blue olive badges which explains their position of the shell.Mike

ok, thanks, great to know!

I knew the "hidden Monroe Badge" is in the place where a B/O badge was supposed to be. Should have known that it might be mid 80s.

Yes Ludwig do misplace the snare beds sometimes. This is a 1950s wooden one of mine, and the beds are only over 50% of a panel, not a whole panel. I find that the beds are easier to photograph if you put masking tape on the edge carefully placed to follow where the edge would be if there were no snare bed.

These snare beds look nothing like any Supra I've ever owned, includingmy current '70s 400 and '82 (Chicago) hammered bronze 5x14 - dittowith my Acros.Like every Supra I've ever seen, mine have very wide and gradual snarebeds that are difficult to discern with the naked eye.Has anyone considered that the beds on the OP's drum have been addedby a previous owner...

I agree that the snare beds don't look like Acoustiperfect snare beds I'm familiar with. Ludwig Acoustiperfect beds are very wide and shallow and hard to see with the naked eye.

Good luck attracting Ludwig's attention regarding your one. I'd start with good photos of the bed and just asking Ludwig if they look like they are proper factory beds. Avoid pointing the finger at Ludwig and just ask if they seem non factory.

If it does come to moving the strainer and butt over one panel, I wouldn't bother to fill the old holes to start with. See how you get on with tuning. If these snare beds are as unusual as they seem then the snare may still not perform to spec. Or it may be spectacular. Who knows.

As I said, the snarebeds look deeper than they are on those pictures. I have the snare lying in front of me here, and it's really hard to see them. and yes, they are very wide.... :-)

Thanks, I'll see. It's not possible to get in contact with Ludwig as a private person. I posted my problem on Facebook as well, and there is a dealer from the US who kindly has taken my problem and forwarded it to Ludwig. Cool1

I really am curious about the outcome.

This is sort of a mixed bag for me: I wouldn't want to buy a damaged drum, but once this one's fixed, it'll have a tale attached to it. Keep us posted.....marko

My guess is that they will replace it if they are still producing that shell. Otherwise, they will probably offer you another model. You will probably have to send them the shell you have or the whole drum depending which way they go. If just the shell, you might want to ask them to fix your original badge onto the replacement shell.

Is Ludwig still a division of Selmer?

I got a reply from the dealer who contacted Ludwig on my behalf. Ludwig's reply was, that they will ONLY replace a drum or shell, if the drum was bought with an official Ludwig dealer, and that only within a 3-year span.

So, nothing outside a usual 3-year warranty.

I don't know if I am disappointed, maybe not. Just a little surprised, that there didn't seem to be any kind of "Oh we're sorry, but...." or "That shouldn't have happened, but...."

Oh well, i guess I will have to visit a drum builder then and get the drum re-drilled and playable. Keep your fingers crossed.....

Fill those holes with Lead. Copper is too hard and will warp the hole. Cold Lead. NO heat.

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

I suppose they feel that is ample time for the original buyer to find any flaws and after that it's not their problem. Also, where do they draw the line 3 years? 5 years, 25 years?. If that snare is from 1985 ish (with a shell possibly made before that) it's nearly 30 years old...not too many companies are in the habit of replacing or warrantying products that they made that long ago and that have probably been resold several times over. It sucks that your drum is messed up and it would be so cool if they would do something about it but I'm not at all surprised that they won't.
