Thorn, The 40`s super classic tenor had the badge over the throw,..in the fifties they moved it over a panel.

This is the only drum where the throw mount screws was placed below the top of the lugs, but the drum was 15x12 and the screws did not interfere with the hoops.

Put 2 inches on each end and this drum is identical to a 50`s super classic tenor. Driiling and all....

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

So you're saying this is NOT an original School Festival?

Also notice that there are at least two lug mounting screws missing from the top set of lugs. They might have been misplaced from a disassemble and cleaning or the screws might have broken off inside the threads. If this was a conversion, the asking price is really too high, in my opinion.-Tim

Good lookin' out! I agree as well, too high if it is a converted marcher.

Not sure if the drum you are looking at was a converted marching drum based on the available pictures. Sorry, but there are some things that don't look quite right.

Here are three of my converted marching snares. I cut from the top to retain the snare beds, so the strainers are in their original locations. All of the original badge locations were also above the strainers, but I moved them to a panel. The WMP and red sparkle drums have their strainers mounted lower than the blue sparkle drum.

The WMP is from Sept 2, 1960 (original state), the red sparkle is from mid 70's and the blue sparkle is from Dec 31, 1968.

Hmm, very interesting! Thanks for the pics!

It's been 5 days since I sent a message to the seller with no reply, so that plus the fact that they have 0 feedback on ebay makes me too nervous to throw an offer. Unless I can see it in person I won't be making any moves on it.

I agree, you are making the right choice. There will be other School Festivals. A 15" snare is pretty big, so you might even consider the 14x6.5 School Festival. I've also noticed the stock hoops on my 15x6.5 flex a little more under higher tension, since there are only 8 lugs per side. Thicker hoops might help or maybe Ludwig should have used 10 lugs per side.

There are currently two 14x6.5 School Festivals on ebay right now, but they are in Italy. Setup a search/notification and one will eventually show up.

Tim since your going to the Chicago drum show I think I'd look for something there. Bring your fist full of cash along. Good chance you'll find something nice there.

I agree on size, not sure I would like a 15" wide snare on a drum set! Thanks for the advice, I think I will!
