Well then - I've no recourse other than to go and pop the snare in the oven on 500 with all the magnets I've in my arsenal and watch and see whether any of them fall off before they melt, or my igloo does. Sure hope the shell isn't made out of Uranium -

Still doesn't explain why a magnet won't stick at all to an Acrolite shell.....mine anyway. It's been told it's the same shell as the Supra less chrome and two lugs.....on this forum and others.

Anyway....nice looking drum Hobbs...whatever it is.

The little magnet will not stick to my Acrolite either. The Acrolite is therefore not Ludaloy and probably pure Aluminum with a bit of Zinc.

Anyone out there able to contact Bill Ludwig III and request the truth about the metal content of their drums? Maybe the alloy formulas are in a secret vault like those of KFC and Coke?

The Acrolite is Ludalloy (mostly aluminum) like the Supra, minus chrome and two lugs, therefore, a magnet will not stick.

You've missed a few posts and the photos that don't lie. Light weight fridge magnets stick, however gingerly to the sides of Supras, new and old and as you say, not at all to the Acrolite. So, we are concluding that the Acrolite is not Ludalloy.

Well, in case my earlier post was misleading...a light refrig magnet does not STICK to my Supra. I'm still betting that both the Supra and the Acrolite are Ludalloy, i.e., some type of aluminum alloy.

Sorry GC, no offense. We are trying by trial and error, the scientific method is really not in play here :)

Maybe we need to keep a tally of "Stick, "no stick"

Personally;

- 3 Supras (2 1970's B & O), 1 Monroe - all stick

- 1 SS (1976) - stick

- 1 Acrolite (1966) - no stick

- 1 Black Beauty (Monroe) - no stick

A large and small fridge magnet does not stick to my,

70's Acrolite,71 Supra,80 Supra, or my 6 1/2 x 14 Chicago Supra with bowtie lugs that has a round blue Ludalloy sticker inside it. Not even a little pull on any of them.
