My First Vintage Cymbal Last viewed: 1 hour ago

So I received my Kashian crash/ride today, and I couldn't be happier with it. The first thing I did was clean it up, and it cleaned up really well with a little Bar Keep. Then I played it and I have to say I loved it. It has a very pleasant ride sound, which should work pretty well in most music. It has a nice bright crash that can cut through, with a good amount of wash, which is a nice contrast to my dark Agop's which decay quickly. So this purchase was a shot in the dark that worked out well. I wanted an 18" crash, and now I have a beauty with the added bonus of a nice ride sound and a cool bell tone to.

Very cool! Glad it worked out for you

Thanks ar, I sort of feel like you! I know you like the unknown journeys to. :D

Now I'm waiting for the ride. Goodness, wine and e bay just don't mix! DOH

So the ride cymbal arrived today, and wow, what a beautiful tone. This 20" ride is light, at 2186 grams. It has a fair amount of wash and I would say a bit dark as well, so I think it sounds very nice for jazz. My nylon tip sticks sound especially nice on it and gives it some nice stick articulation. Cool bell sounds to. It was filthy though, but Barkeeper's Friend and a lot of elbow grease cleaned it up well.

I'm very satisfied with these sleepers!

The 20" ride is to the left and the 18" crash is in the middle

So I was sort of bragging to my friend, who's been a gigging drummer almost all of his life and we played together when I was a guitarist, about my 2 new Kashians, so he came over to play them. I was a little nervous about him playing them because I had talked them up pretty good, and now I was hoping they wouldn't disappoint.

Well, he was pretty blown away by their sound. He thought the crash was really good, even for riding, but he really gushed over the 20" ride. He thought it might be one of the most beautiful rides he's ever heard and thought it was just perfect for jazz. He thought the tone, the wash and stick articulation were perfectly combined. It was good to stand in front of my kit while somebody else played them, because it gave me a different perspective on their sound and I loved it.

I was relieved that my original thoughts about these cymbals was correct, and my ears weren't playing tricks on me!

So...I just made a deal for a 16" Kashian crash. That completes my Kashian set. Geez, it all happened so fast!

Nobody here seems to excited about Kashian cymbals, I guess because it's not a Zildjian K, but I'm extremely happy to have stumbled on these sleepers.

I am! I'm not actively hunting online, but I'm on the lookout, locally and when I'm on tour.

Congrats on the 16! I can't wait to hear how you think it sounds in your setup!

Anyway, the 14" hi hats arrived today, and again, beautiful tone and a great chick. I'm loving these. I'll keep you posted on the 16" crash when it arrives. Thanks for checking in!Yes Sir

Back in the '80's Guitar Center had a fire-sale on N.O.S. Kashain 24"s for a measly $100 each, and they sounded pretty good to my ear.
