The question is, what should be done about it?

From what I hear, BDP is notorious for shrinking and bubbling if exposed to long periods of direct sunlight. Ack.

Thankfully, BDP is still an available wrap. If this had happened to (say) a Rogers wine red ripple...

1965/66 Ludwig Club Dates rewrapped in Black Diamond Pearl (12/15/20)

Glad you included a picture because the title made me think of something else. I'm no expert but from past experience the only thing you can do is in fact re-wrap. My friend was able to get a slightly raised wrap seam to lay flat using a high powered blow dryer, made for formica and stuff. It worked ok. But this looks like a completely different situation.

Wow. That is too bad. But, as other have pointed out, all is not lost because there is some very high quality replacement wrap available for OBP. And for a bass, you can get it precut and ready to roll. I would try

www.drummaker.com

They may likely have a "special" a partial sheet that would be perfect for your drum. Or you can try www.jamminsam.com or www.precisiondrum.com in that order. Precision will be highest of all three.

Remember to save as much of the wrap as you can for patch jobs and what not

Thanks for the input.

Yes it (the drum) is in a sad state :( No worries, I wasn't talking about anyone here...lol

I think if it's already at a point where a re-wrap is a consideration, it wouldn't hurt to at least try to salvage the original wrap. I was just hesitant to start the process before a little consulting.

I can't wait to get this done already!

Something is wrong with this pic

that pearl drum doesn't belong that whats wrong, gretsch drums have a piece of linen cloth on the shell, glued to the shell, this will be a real test for you!

Yep you're right about the Pearl. Hmmm...I don't have any cloth glued anywhere though. I have the piece that is screwed in on one side and connected to a tensioner on the other side of the shell.

I assume this test will be adjusting from a 22x18 to 20x14 and the pitch, or the tuning??? I have a feeling I will be missing that cannon I have there now. I don't know...yet.

All I know is these Gretsch's sound better than any other drums I have ever played. Ever.

And that's with these OLD heads. I have plans to get new heads later today. Although, I am debating even putting them on.
