Please help me identify these Slingerlands Last viewed: 3 minutes ago

From Ning

From what I see through the drill holes... the toms are thin layer of Maple on the inside and then a thicker layer of poplar and then a thin outer ply of mahogany. The kick drum looks like maple-poplar-maple... The wrap is really thin on the bass drum.

Looks more and more to me like as someone already suggested above that these are standard 3-ply Slingerland shells with the re-rings taken off.

They then painted the interiors, rewrapped them and put on Tama hardware.

Thank you Robbie.

Do you think I should remove wrap and interior paint and refinish the drums ?

Cheers

Unless you are in love with what you already have, I'd go for it. It's very satisfying to bring an old kit back.

Best regards

No I'm not... :D - ...just got the kit last week. The wrap is booring white and ugly and it's difficult to put heads on. Too tight between wrap and head.

I'm going to bring that old Slingerland kit back ;)

Best Regards

Thank you... will do.

I have already cleaned up the lugs and hoops... looks great.

Where do I post the finished result ? - here on this thread or is there another forum ?

The interior is puzzling me. Re-wraps usually get drilled from the inside out. this looks drilled from the outside in. But that can be done, what is puzzling is that there is no interior finish whatsoever in any of the holes. Now an oversized bit will clean out the lug holes but the big mount holes show no sign at all of being re-drilled or spill over paint inside.

Is it possible that the interior is original. Not even my drums and it`s gonna bug me all day. Tell tale signs of refinishing the interior are not there that I can see.

Who`s our Slingy go-to guy ?

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

Ning, I`d like to see what`s under that exterior paint. Take a face cloth and dip it into boiling water and place it on the wrap. Fold it so it holds the heat. After about five minutes or so, remove it and try to rub off the paint with the scrub part of a kitchen sponge or plastic card edge. See if that works.

Hey OddBall.

That's exactly what is bothering me too... there is no sign whatsoever of modification or refinish on the toms. The kick drum has clear signs of old Sling hardware removed and new Tama hardware mounted and no wrap.... just white spray paint on. But the toms look like they came undrilled or with Tama Hardware. They are all drilled from the outside. The interior looks original. But I can't say for sure. This is my first Sling-set... only done Ludwigs before. That is why I ask all these questions... and I have no Slingy go-to guy in my area :(

You're my only hope ;)

Are you talking about the kick drum now ?
