Need some "expert"opinions.I am working on a Rogers "Dave Clark"twin tom set up from early 60's.Have bought a Black Onyx 20-12-16 set to begin recovering in Red Glass Glitter.The 20 and 12 are VERY cracked and can only be saved by a re-wrap.The 16' floor to on the other hand is in very good condition.Wrap and chrome.Should I "save"this "as is" and offer it for sale or go ahead and strip it aand re-cover.Not in a big hurry,so I can buy another FT to re-cover.I feel like a butcher if I strip this! I think your instincts have already given you the right answer. Please do not strip a perfectly good vintage drum.

Sell the 16x16 Black Onyx floor tom and use the funds to offset the cost of your project.

You probably won't have an issue selling the floor tom either.

Find the project drum first. At the moment, you have a playable three-piece set. Find the other 3rd piece, then sell off the the one with good wrap that you don't want to strip. You do several folks a favor. You get what you need, someone gets to sell their floor tom with bad wrap to you and some gets your floor tom with good wrap. But best not to start the puzzle until you have all the pieces.

WELL!Thanks to all who voiced an opinion.I got my thoughts supported and an extra idea or two.The idea of selling AFTER I find one to recover.was something that I never would have thought of.Guess I'll clean it up and get ready to work on the bass and ride tom.SO,I am looking for a '63-'66 16X16 to recover and I have a nice Black Onyx '64 for sale.Away I go.More thoughts are still appreciated. You also don't have to do it as a complete drum. You can simply swap the shells if a suitable complete drum doesn't appear.

You may want to check with Dave at Drew Al Drew's Music in Woonsocket, RI. They were a Rogers dealer and eventually bought out the remaining Rogers stock. He's an expert in Rogers drums.

He has a lot of shells in his shop and one may be the one you need.
