Rogers experts...Should I........ Last viewed: 2 hours ago

That definitely crossed my mind,However,I have been in a Dave Clark 5 Mood of late and it is becoming an obsession. Thanks to a member of this forum(can't remember his name at the moment)who bought and restored Dave's early set AND took prolific photos along the way,I don't even have to guess about the details.Of course it was an English Rogers set but who sweats the small stuff?I learned to play to the early DC 5 records with their prominent and heavy drum track. So I ruled that out and now have a Black Onyx floor tom to help someone who is looking,

Not that gonedrums is going to use black onyx, but keep in mind that the original finish was translucent and, for black onyx drums, Rogers stained the shell before the wrap was applied. That's why you see the brown highlights coming through the wrap. The black onyx Precision carries is not translucent. It has a black backing. It could be the one Jammin' Sam carries is translucent.

gonedrums: If you are going to refinish in red sparkle, you will probably want to remove all the stain from the outer ply.

I have a 16"Red Onyx orphan with cracked wrap that I would trade plus cash (or extra parts if you need any) for your Black Onyx FT. PM me if interested.

Thanks!

Thanks Dan.Some of the cracks have opened up and pulled apart so I can see the stain. If it does not sand off easily, could I put a coat of gray primer on it?Thanks again,Jim

Must say I made up my mind as to whether or not to save the 18" floor tom or go ahead and re-wrap it.Won't tell you what I decided, but it wasn't as nice as I first thought. This is not really about that, but to say THANKS to randy73.He single handedly came up with ALL the parts I was missing to finish my project. He is a great guy to do business with, and is very knowledgeable about drums of all shapes and sizes. So thanks Randy and you too Gravy for recommending him.
