Rogers Gina Schock SuperTen Authenticated Last viewed: 3 hours ago

I bought this snare drum via eBay, April 2010. The auction description did not specify this drum once belonged to Gina Schock of The Go-go's. I learned this information through an exchange of emails with the seller. It was not disclosed in the auction. Because of that, I aquired the drum for a very modest price, given the artist connection. At the time, Rogers XP10 6.5x14 snare drums were selling upwards of 500.00 on any given day.

This drum features a ten ply keller made shell, Rogers profile bearing edges, Rogers lug locks (normally reserved for Dyna-Sonic snare drums from this period), the finish is excellently preserved natural maple lacquer.

The drum is signed by John Cermenaro, Production Manager at Rogers Drums, 1-26-83. This signature did not need much in the way of authentication, because there is another example of JC's signature in another drum built for Gina Schock. The incriptions are very similar, and the signatures, identical. The seller claimed to be a member of the Go-Go's production team and had received the drum several years previously from Gina Schock.

Knowing the history of the drum, I desired to fully authenticate that history.

This past weekend I was able to do just that. I attended a Go-Go's concert in Saratoga, CA. I was present at soundcheck and shortly afterwards, was able to meet Gina Schock briefly for several minutes. She did indeed remember the drum, confirming its history. It was an honor and a pleasure to meet her. And.... she signed my drum.

The concert was a fantastic event. I truely had a wonderful time.

I owe a few people big time for this privelige, and to them, I am forever grateful.

Well that is fun. What a great find and the drum is excellent condition. I saw the Go-Go's back in '81 or '82. I was struck by several things:

1.) this was the first concert I attended that did not smell of pot as everyone seemed more concerned about dancing than smoking.

2.) I was really impressed at how effortlessly Gina played full stroke eighth notes at really fast tempos and then would quickly stand up for a courtesy afterwards. If it were me I would be icing down my right forearm between tunes.

3.) I actually had a good time.

Great story!

That's awesome and I looove the Go Gos. And who didn't have the hots for Belinda in the early MTV days? Great story. Congrats. I'm no Rogers expert but I thought after early 70s Rogers went out of favor and production declined. Kinda surprised to see Gina in video playing a Rogers kit.. Oh well. Nice happy ending. Everyone go to bed :)

Ploughman,

I know you have no aversion to playing your vintage snares, but maybe this SuperTen should go into a special display case with some photos.
