I'm bending the rules a little with a non-drum/music topic here, but.....

I'm quitting smoking on May 11th, my graduation day from community college.

Part of my cessation program is to tell everyone I know or come into contact with of my "stop date", so there it is.

I started when I was 15, so it's been 37 years of non-stop nicotine addiction.

Please keep me in your thoughts, I need all the help I can get, my friends!!

Thanks!

Kevin

Kevin, quitting smoking is tough. Keep your focus and remember WHY you're quitting. Smoking is an addiction, so I suggest you find something to replace it with, I suggest cleaning drums....

Also realize that it's a game between your brain and your willpower. Your brain impulse to smoke will diminish after the nicotine addiction and intake is gone. Will power keeps you going until the nicotine withdrawal is over.

I quit for the last time, over 3 1/2 years ago. My buddy's wife dropped dead at 44 of a heart attack, 2 pack a day smoker and then some. That pretty much made me understand what the effects of smoking can have. I had quit over 10 years ago for a few years after seeing my good friend's dad (my ex-boss) die of lung cancer, but someone close to my age really did it for me.

I wish you the best, keep your focus and fight the good fight.

Hey Kev, I kow you can do it! Remember, move in the positive, you're not trying to quit or your quitting, but you quit!

Man, are you getting some good and realistic advice! The cravings come in waves, Kevin. Very strong at first. It's an act of will as you have been told. Fight the good fight as each wave hits and washes over you. The good news is, over time, as the days and weeks go by, the craving attacks are fewer in number and as you learn to fight them off, they are much less intense as well.

One day you'll wake up nicotine and craving free and healthier than you've been in years. Get ready for oxygen highs!

Good luck buddy. I know you can do this.

John

Right on, Kev!

I chewed Copenhagen and smoked Marlboros for decades. Then, I decided to just quit. I got angry at myself for being such a weak-willed person, so I went to war with my nicotine addiction and beat it. The smoking part wasn't bad. The chewing part was really hard, though.

I honestly can't believe that nicotine isn't considered as a schedule 1 drug. It's terrible and it's a rough addiction to break.

Congratulations on your decision. You can do it.

Fight the good fight. You know the enemy. Strength is from within. He is there for you even in the dark moments of battle. Be strong and be the one.
