I think the best advice is to replace the behavior with a more productive addictive behavior..like exercise. For some people you can channel compulsive behavior into constructive pasttimes. Beating addiction requires behavior modification. I quit drinking/partying and ALL recreational drugs 3+ years ago, and my life keeps getting better all the time. As a harsh deterrent:take a couple ashtrays of butts put in a mason jar and add a cup of H2O. Cap the jar, and when you want a puff, just open the jar and take a whiff. Mind Blowi Now THAT will modify you're behavior in a Pavlovian heartbeat!! Soon you will associate the craving with that awful stench and you will be sufficiently deterred from lighting up.x-mas1

Time for a progress report! How are ya doing, Kev?
Hopefully you're breathing easier than ever...

The house is spotless..........
Good on you mate.
I bought my last pack in November last year -still hanging in there.
I found that the couple of times that I did relapse and borrow a cig, they tasted like sh..!
Hang in there man.
I'm bending the rules a little with a non-drum/music topic here, but.....I'm quitting smoking on May 11th, my graduation day from community college.Part of my cessation program is to tell everyone I know or come into contact with of my "stop date", so there it is.I started when I was 15, so it's been 37 years of non-stop nicotine addiction. Please keep me in your thoughts, I need all the help I can get, my friends!!Thanks!Kevin
Kevin, you have to really, really want to quit (that's what I've found). I quit in '87 and I've never had the urge to touch those $hit-sticks, since. Damned cancer-sticks. I hate the smell and now, can't understand why people still waste their money on them. I quit when cigarettes were still under a buck a pack. If not for your health, why not for your wealth?
Best wishes putting that habit to rest.

Kev - Now you can say that, you beat drums... and cigarettes! Clapping Happy2

Kev, My friend i wish you well on Stop smoking...To make a long story short i stopped back in July 10 2000...I got very sick -{ not from smoking}- i was in I.C.U. for 21 days had every tube in me doing every thing for me.I even lost 70 pounds...Don't get me wrong their are sometimes i catch myself thinking a Cig would be nice but them all i have to do is think about the year 2000......Mikey
The power of addiction comes from the exact same spot in the brain as the power of learning.... you learn to be addicted.
I think it's important in this trying time to learn something new. Use that noggin to understand something you know nothing about. And a new habit will be formed. Just don't study how to cook meth or anything.
Good Luck, man.
Kevins, you can do it! Stand up to the cravings and stay tough. I used to smoke like a chimney, spent all my dough on weed and butts. I mean all my dough. I had the crappyist(is this a word!?) drums and gear. Quit all that about 10 years ago, now I've got a 60s Ludwig Black Galaxy, Sonor teardrop and my faves- a 60s Meazzi. Also have nice cymbals and hardware. Best of all-shiny pink lungs, all because I stopped spending all my money on that other crap! You can do it, you can do it, you can do it!
