Snares to use on upcoming gig Last viewed: 50 minutes ago

Hey guys, I have a gig with a friend's cover band coming up. Sat in once before, but doing the whole gig this time. The venue is a pretty open restaurant, so it's not a tiny place. Trying to decide on a cool snare to use on this one. It will be blues, r&b, and some classic rock and roll stuff...not heavy though. I'll be using my BOP 60s Ludwig kit.

Snares I'm thinking of:

60s acrolite 5x14

60s jazz festival 5x14

Steve Jordan Yamaha 6.5x13 with wood hoops

Elvin Jones Yamaha 7x14

Black Beauty 6.5x14

No right answers, I'll probably take two for fun.

I would use the 60s jazz festival 5x14

And I aways bring a back up snare no matter where I'm playing.

Good luck at the gig band3

Thanks for the feedback. Should be fun. Also deciding on which cymbal set to take:

My old Zildjian As (20 ride, 18 and 20 crashes, 14 hats) or...

modern Zildjian A/K setup (14 new beats, K Con Medium Ride or K cust dark ride...both 22. And two k dark thin crashes)...

Thoughts?

I was reading somewhere that shallow snares may be more appropriate for a smaller venue...not sure if any of you have some experience in this area. I'm leaning on taking the jazz festival and acrolite (both 5x14...I figure I can have both the Ringo and Al Jackson sound on the same gig, haha), and switching them out during the gig on certain tunes. We'll be playing a good number of Beatles tunes, and a bunch of other classic stuff including some R&B.

No double bass set here, haha. Basically I'm the opposite of that! We're playing at a restaurant in the Atlanta area.

Bring Elvin and the Black Beauty. I second bringing the double kick Premier kit!!!

As far as cymbal, get a set of Rudes... :P

Seriously, I'd bring the A/K set with the K custom dark ride.

Yeah- I'm THAT guy!!!

Dead dogs like rusty fire hydrants!!!
