Sonor 50's Kit Last viewed: 19 hours ago

I think the kit looks cool, but there appears to be some problems with it. I would imagine it's relatively rare and might be hard to find the correct parts. I love the teardrop lugs. Very similar to my '50s Trixon snare.

After reading all the post here I think this kit would be a very good buy for someone that collects/plays Sonor drums. So - it's most likely 63/64 (changed the date following your post below - thanks)

Nice drums no.

63/64,...just before the badge change. 62 cat still shows 4 spurs. But it is possible but not likely !i

They're pretty... but, nostalgia aside, I'm happy with my Phonics, thank you.

Beautiful drums!

I have yet to play a Sonor kit. My 18" bd on my 2011 Custom Gretsch kit and the 20" on my late 50's kit sound amazing.. If your bass drum is 'best bass drum ever heard' like Oddball says I will definately have to check them out some day. I've heard lots of good things about Sonor drums but like I said at the begining of this thread I don't know much about them. I posted this thread partly because so many people like Sonor.

I would place it 63/64 but not the first Chicago from 60/62 because it only has one set of spurs, the earlier one had four spurs !i

No they didn't. At least my early teardrop kit (app. 1958-60) has only two spurs. It's a 6-lugger, though.

Was yours the Chicago Star ? I had to go back and check and sure enough, the eight lug Star from intrduction to 63/64 has 4. But if I remember correctly, yours is all legit but still mysteriously custom I think.
