What a beautiful drum! My jaw dropped for an uncomfortable amount of time when I saw it all cleaned up! Simply amazing....

Nice detail job Purdie..
I'm thinking, that drum would not look out of place surrounded by the Crown je*wels..
Cheers

Wow~! Looks like polished a j e w e l . I tell you what the rolled seam sealed bearing edge is really unique. Man true craftsman back then really amazing stuff. You'd be hard pressed to find anything like that today. So how ya like it? ;)
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

I LOVE it! I don't have a working video camera, but my buddy Mick M does. Next time he comes over I'll ask Mick to bring the videocam and I'll make a sound file for you guys. Words just can't communicate it properly. It's a wonderful, sensitive, articulate drum with a singing tone that only brass shells can produce. This one is a marvel of Art, design and engineering. I never had a brass drum that sounded this good. Warm for a metal drum.
I'll respond more later... we've got some friends over so I'm off to socialize....
All computer contact and no face to face makes Jack a very disturbed boy! LOL

John, congrats on the new drum, it is really cool! Looks good sitting with the Clubbies too. Still would like to see the jazz fest with the kit someday, but that black beauty will do for now, LOL!
Thank you!

I just want to close the thread by saying thank you to ALL for following along, and a very special, personal thanks to all who helped me with useful, pertinent information. That's one of things that makes VDF such a great place.
Here are some parting shots of the Holy Grail. It's been cloudy and raining here the last few days so I haven't been able to take it outside for a photo session. These will have to serve. Enjoy and thanks again, I enjoyed all of your comapny on this little trip...
