So for all you gals and guys out there that gig regularly on vintage drums and hardware, do you also use the vintage model throne that matches your hardware, or something more modern and possibly more comfortable?

I really like the oval Ludwig throne from the 70s, though it's been years since I owned one.

I do a weekly gig that involves amongst other things Django Reinhardt and Bob Wills numbers. I use a Walberg & Auge throne as part of the immersion process. The bass and snare are 60s Ludwig, but all of the traps are Leedy circa 1910 to 1935. When I say traps, I mean the stuff you actually make sound with, and not the metal bits holding it all in place. Here's a couple of lame pics for your scrutiny... I don't know why they alway end up sideways. Just crane your neck to the left! I'll post a more flattering one later.

My cheeks are aching just looking at that.

Vintage sound has nothing to do with comfort... This vintage derriere sits on a DW heavy duty air lift throne that has a tractor seat about the size of a small community. That is one comfy throne! I didn't get the backrest, yet... I also have the smaller normal (round) DW 9000 (think that's the model) throne just for fun.

I mean playing vintage drums is great, but why punish yourself? DOH

Those old thrones had little padding and were uncomfortable for more than about an hour. IMHO

I use a Tama saddle style throne at the jamhole. I also have this one that I made. I took a pacific standard round seat throne and converted it to a saddle style. I Cut out a piece of 3/4" plywood the shape i wanted the seat. I drilled 5/16 holes to bolt the base bracket and installed 1/4" T-Nuts on the top side, Added 4" hi density foam, Then I made a cover for it out of alligator print genuine leather. I added the lil chrome studs just because I could lol Check it out Y'all
