Amidst all the other injuries sustained over the past two years ... I bruised my coccyx. It made playing very difficult, to say the least. I was researching my options and found someone who would build me the throne I needed. At the last minute, my wife stumbled upon a picture online of a Pearl throne. I checked it out and soon realized it was exactly what I was seeking.

It's the PEARL D-2000BR

It's built for drummers with lower back injuries. It has an interesting tilt to the padding that reduces pressure in specific areas. It also has the most amazing cut-away - right where the coccyx would normally hit. There's nothing there to make contact with it. It has a backrest and a seriously strong four-leg base that stays put.

Pearl's words - " Two Position Seat: One side provides an angled front for free leg movement and a small recessed cavity toward the back to alleviate spinal compression."

I love the throne. It has allowed me to continue playing with no pain in the coccyx region.

Wow! Thats very interesting. We recustomize seat foam in vehicles for people with all sorts of problems at my shop. One guy was so tall we had to move his seat back 7" Another was extremly large and needed his seat moved back about 6" and we had to move his pedals so he could reach them.

Most are back problems and leg circulation problems.

I use a Tama saddle style throne at the jamhole. I also have this one that I made. I took a pacific standard round seat throne and converted it to a saddle style. I Cut out a piece of 3/4" plywood the shape i wanted the seat. I drilled 5/16 holes to bolt the base bracket and installed 1/4" T-Nuts on the top side, Added 4" hi density foam, Then I made a cover for it out of alligator print genuine leather. I added the lil chrome studs just because I could lol Check it out Y'all

Poppy, that is one hell of a good looking throne! Nice job. You should go into the custom drum throne biz, seriously. Those chrome studs are... studly!

I'd like this one done in a rough brown South-Western Leather look. Add a few of those studs for flavor.

I'm thinking of getting or building one of the storage thrones (can't remember the proper name) just to condense my setup. I'd use a more padded, modern seat top though.

Current gigging set:
Recent Ludwig Accent 13/16/18/26, (in Silver Sparkle), "updated" 70's Acrolite with cast batter hoop and Trick strainer/butt

Cymbals:
Zildjian K Custom Ride, Dream (Bliss and Contact) crashes and hats, and a Sabian Swish/China.

Other stuff:
60's Ludwig Champagne Sparkle "Traveler's Club Date", under construction. Click Here
70's Acrolite (under RE-construction)
Two 1960's mahogany 32" Ludwig bass drums with Imperial lugs.

Those are called canister Thrones.

You could get a keller shell and wrap it. I see them on ebay all the time.

Then you could cut out 2 pieces of 3/4" plywood the would fit snuggly into the shell. Fit one into the bottom of the shell and attach the other to the seat and set that on top of the shell. You could even cover the bare plywood with felt for aesthetic reasons, but you have to allow for the thickness of the felt on the fit, or just paint it black. If you covered the bottom in felt it would peel back sooner or later.

As long as it spins and is thick padded, I`m good with it. Can`t use one that don`t spin. I got one that belongs to my kit and it does both.

Interesting throne there mcjnic, I like the gas release cut-out !!

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!
