What to do with my Oaklawns Last viewed: 6 hours ago

From Purdie Shuffle

It's all about condition, and completeness of a kit when it comes to setting prices. If those two drums were in 'complete' and pristine condition, you could ask for that kind of money and (maybe) get it. The missing rack tom takes away from the value of the other two drums. Do you have any idea how hard it's going to be for a potential buyer to find a matching rack tom? Do you have any idea how much he/she will hve to pay for it if they do find it?You have to provide some asking price incentive for a potential buyer to make the deal irresistible. Whoever buys em, will have to hunt down original missing parts and then the long wait for a rack tom to show up begins. Price accordingly if you really want to sell them.John

All good points. It just seems from the homework I've done that these are the holy grail of vintage American drums and that the seller might have a little more leeway than with say a more common ludwig classic maple or something like that. That being said, maybe around a grand to 1300 might be a little more reasonable.

Now you're speakin' Deacon! :D

If you keep the price realistic, they'll sell for you. Best of luck with the sale. Nice drums.

Too many great drums to list here!

The problem like Bob pointed out is that it is often a timely and somewhat costly measure to complete a set. In most cases for me it has been more expensive than buying a complete kit. They are nice drums for sure and like most things they do have an average value but are worth what someone is willing to pay at that time.

I have seen guys try to move kits that should be gone in a heartbeat and then some kits sell in the blink of an eye. Just be patient and if you are motivated to sell I am sure someone will enjoy them.

those are the only two Camco drums i have seen that are the same color as my Camco kit. i was thinking about trying to work out a deal but then noticed the badge has USA on it. my kits bades dont have USA on them. from what i understand, your partial kit would be dated later 60s. mine with no USA on the badge is dated early 60s.ive had mine for about ten years now and in that time, like i said, these are the only other gold moire Camco drums i have seen. if our badges matched, i would be on these like stink on ____.

talk with Vinny (vintage drum bug). he has a tom to go with the two you have. Vinny is a good guy and will do you right with a fair deal. good luck with your sale n thanks for sharing them here.

Let me do some math for you -

If you can find a rack tom to match - they're out there if you're patient - Your kit with 12/16/20 OR 13/16/20 will be worth $2000 or more easily.

A Camco rack tom by itself typically sells in the 250 range depending on what it is.

I wouldn't take less than $1750 for those two drums. Be patient, put the word out and try to find that single to make this kit complete!

... and 5 years from now you'd still be waiting for a buyer! Nobody is going to pay almost 2 grand for a drum kit that is incomplete and missing parts. Sure, you can -ask- for $1750, but actually -getting it- is something else altogether. I've bought and sold a lot of drums in my time, trust me, you're estimate is sky-high and would make the sale a tough one. Without the matching rack tom, it's already a tough sell. Price them out of reach and it becomes impossible.

John is right on. I would think around the 1k mark would be a fair price point. Considering complete Camco kits have gone for the 2k range.
