I am mystified that you didn't already know that his shipping quote was way off? I gather from reading this site daily, and the fact that about 80%+ of your posts have something to do with money and drums, that you wouldn't have caught this long before ever inking the deal? With you being a frequent flier on the vintage drum parts airline, I just don't know how you didn't catch that shipping quote long before he lost money and spoke up?

P.S. it's ten bucks, not a refund for a mint Dyna, I don't know what the dillemma is all about? If it's the principle of the thing, and that is the crux of this moral dilemma, I see it as this guy just made a mistake. That happens to all of us at some point. The character of the involved individuals is realized once the mistake has been brought to light..............

So you, of course, are sure that the shipping charge really was $10 more.

Amount doesn't matter when right is right and wrong is just wrong.

Would you give the roofer the additional $1,200.00? And if so, why? Because he misjudged his bid?

Really, honestly, have you ever paid someone more than they wanted because you knew it was worth more? And if not, why not, based upon all this "right is right".

I'm not about screwing anyone but I, in return, prefer to not be screwed.

And I'm not saying that is what is happening here, I'm just say'in.

The last two things I bought off of CL were drums. The first one was a guy who was cooking at Max and Ermas as he just lost his job. He needed money bad and didn't want to sell his kit. I talked to him for about ten minutes and I could hear his kid in the background wanting to talk to his dad and the dad trying to not offend me by interupting our conversation and possibly losing the sale. I gave him MORE than he listed on the ad. I had my brother pick them up as I was out of town though, so I never met him, but that is how it went down.

The second time was this recent batch I am moving to Bill and FFR. This guy shows up at our meet with a (I promise you no fun is being made here) mentally retarded younger son, who is helping me to load my truck with their drums. He got his asking price, and the drums were in pretty bad shape. (Not that bad Bill.....LOL)

Yes, I would pay more if a guy made a mistake. I don't worship money, and I don't have an overabundance of liquid cashflow to make saying that easy. Money comes and goes, a guy's character and reputation last forever!

my reply was to Purdie Shuffle but yours got put inbetween before mine was sent. I, too, paid more than asking in a similar situation but this is not a similar situation and everyone is assuming the charge really was $10 more.

THAT is my point. I'm out on this one.

It's cool. Like I said earlier, shipping prices are pretty universal and routine anymore, no? I don't know how this escalated to this point given the buyer's transaction count/history? He can tell you how much it costs for tape, peanuts and boxes, shipped to Antartica, probably, from memory!

He didn't give me a "shipping quote"

He said $30 to my door....for items/shipping.

I don't ship from Canada either,so no idea what they charge..

I know England charges a fortune to ship to US though...

I am going to pay the $10.....once I get the items...

I just wanted to see what you all felt about this situation..

I was just listening ,perhaps wrongly, to someone who said I shouldn't have to pay any more,as I was going by what he offered...

End of story....
