I prefer the four piece format with 14x20--14x14--8x12--matching wood shell snare drum. This configuration or slight variations with a 9x13 or 16x16 or maybe a 14x22 or maybe two toms up have been my go-to gigging set ups over the years. But, as a retired hobbyist, the 12-14-20 is just fine with me.
