What's your "go-to" kit/snare of late? Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Loading...

Ok...I figured to start a thread on what YOUR latest "go-to" kit and/or snare is for gigging lately.....

Mine of late is my 70's Ludwig Hollywood kit (yes the Black Panthers) with my Gretsch Dixieland snare for most normal gigs (I've retired the supra to keep it looking nice like it does, but use it on certain special occasions). For smaller rooms I've put together a bunch of re-wrapped Ludwig 6-ply orphans to make a "be-bop" size kit, along with a bronze Ludwig piccolo snare. Cymbals of late are K Custom Dark series.....

Ok, your turn.....Excited

Rogers 12/16/20. Just perfect. Had a friend who's an LA sessions guy show up at a gig a couple of weeks ago. He's deciple of John Good. Couldn't get him off them. Raved on and on. Like them with either the Luddie Classic Maple in the pic, or the Z/NC, depending on the room. The Zildjian's *loud*, but real fat. Blends incredibly well with the set........

12, 16, 20, Rogers 64 Cleveland in Red wine Ripple with matching powertone.

Only my go to is gone, I have a torn achilles and another seperated tendon in my right foot. It might be a couple months or more before I play again.

Torn Achilles! Dang. That was the surgery I had over a year ago (burst Achilles). It was a rough one. It's a year this past October and I'm still dealing with the healing. It's one of the more difficult parts. It takes a tremendous amount of pressure with each step, so it takes a LOOOOOONG time. Good luck with it, my friend. I sincerely wish you the best.

1970 Ludwig Downbeat in silver sparkle with a 1965 Slingerland Hollywood ace in gold sparkle. Not the greatest color combo, but certainly about as good as it gets sound-wise. Cymbals rotate a bunch, but the kit stays constant:

Kits are Sonor teardrop Red Pearl 4 piece, or restored Rogers Red Onyx 5 piece. Favorite snare is Ahead 6" black chrome over brass. Cuts through anything, or lays back when I want it.

The kits I have play so differently. I honestly don't have a go-to yet. I play whatever is convenient at the time. I'm really liking the Slingerland Oakwood kit. I haven't found the right snare for that one, though. I imagine once I'm all healed up, this will change.
