What's your "go-to" kit/snare of late? Last viewed: 1 minute ago

Go-to snare is still a Supraphonic, July 1998, with a Remo Renaissance Emperor on it. Best non-6-1/2 Supra I've ever heard. Too many different kinds of gigs to play just one setup, but for lots of gigs I played this summer it was an old set of Tama Superstars, 24/12/13/16 and a Ludwig non-hammered bronze 6-1/2. Crazy good!

Over the summer, I used my 1999 Ludwig classics for outside patio gigs. It is not my go to kit, but I didn't want to get caught in a rain storm with my favorites.

My go to kit is the 3 ply Ludwig black panthers. I rotate configurations depending on the room and how much gear I want to mess with. My final gig with my current band is in 2 weeks, and I am debating between 12/14/24, 10/12/14/22, 12/14/16/24, 10/12/14/16/22 all with my current go to 14x6.5 remo snare. Cymbals are usually hh/ride/and 2-4 crashes.

Here's my reworked Acrolite... I'm LOVING this thing right now. Coated Powerstroke III with a power dot, Ambassador snare bottom, and Puresound Blasters snare unit. Trick strainer (with adapter plate) and matching Trick butt plate.

Sorry for the crap cell phone pics.

I'm eyeing a bare Acro shell for like $20 right now. Thinking of nabbing it and doing a custom, either anodized or powder-coated finish on the shell. I'd use Imperial lugs (sacrilegious to some, but I like Imperials, and I'm not worried about originality on a 70's B/O Acro that doesn't even have lugs). I'd outfit it the same as the one above, with a Trick strainer, although instead of the Trick butt plate (with adapter) I'd just use a Ludwig P33.

Current gigging set:
Recent Ludwig Accent 13/16/18/26, (in Silver Sparkle), "updated" 70's Acrolite with cast batter hoop and Trick strainer/butt

Cymbals:
Zildjian K Custom Ride, Dream (Bliss and Contact) crashes and hats, and a Sabian Swish/China.

Other stuff:
60's Ludwig Champagne Sparkle "Traveler's Club Date", under construction. Click Here
70's Acrolite (under RE-construction)
Two 1960's mahogany 32" Ludwig bass drums with Imperial lugs.

Yep, I've seen those, and I've seen 10 lug acrolites, and I've seen classic lugs on supraphonics in the early 1980's too! With ludwig, its like GM.....sometimes you never know what combo your gonna get! :p

Interesting info, guys...

Wouldn't a 10-lug Acro technically be a Supra? Or was the only difference the fact that the shell wasn't chromed? I know the 6.5" deep Acros are 10-lug.

yes the only dif is it's not chromed and you'll pay through the nose for one of them Why I dont know, we have one pictured in the snare drum gallery

And it would have classic lugs instead of Imperial lugs....

My Kits aren't vintage, but my current two favourite metal snares are.... Ludwig '72 400, and '79 402. My other current snares are a solid shell highwood, and a 3ply modern vintage Highwood.
