Well, I'm been looking at vintage Premiers. The best music in my opinion came from from the Brits yet I have none in my arsenal yet. Maybe?

Robyn,

If this gift is to be from the kids, you have to go with the drums over the Ruger. Now I've got nothing against firearms (I've been target shooting since I was twelve), but the drums will be a happier reminder of your kids generousity. Can't think of what to get? Consider this:

Your Tie-Dyed kit demonstrates your outside-the-box creativity, so how about letting the grandkids each paint a bare shell on an old MIJ or MIC kit? I'm picturing the shells looking like this...

A kit like this will bring a smile to your face everytime you look at it.

Just an idea.

robyn - what's your cymbal situation? Now would be a good time to invest in a quality pie or two for your kits! Maybe some new hats!!!

Too many great drums to list here!

You know Mike...that is a great idea. I could do that with one of the 3 MIT kits i got stacked up in storage. think i will do just that this spring when the weather is nicer outside. Sounds to me like a fun day with the boys. Thanks for the idea, will post about it when it happens.

Actually John, was giving that a thought too. I pretty much got all the hats i want/need but could use a few more crash cymbals to pick from and maybe a cupl more rides. still looking for that "just right" sounding ride. would like to have another 18" ride like i got from dj333. i'll give the cymbals more thought thanks.

It *is* a great idea...but what about that 500 bucks? :)

Guns are a tricky subject - on the one hand I'm super-glad we don't have so many of em up here in Canada, on the other, they sure are things of technical/fabrication marvel, and if I'm watching a thriller damn straight I want the protagonist to have one! Also fired a Glock once - it was a blast! [literally - my ears rang for about two hours afterwards :)]

I got a vintage Premier floor tom my brother pulled out of the garbage on his rout. It is all original and nothing wrong with it, still has the original heads top n bottom. it looks like one that Keith Moone would of played. it is cool. i took the top head off a while back and the smell was wonderful.....undiscribable. I did a thread on it awhile back when Michael brought the drum home. would be cool to have a whole set of them.

Funny story there, my friend who owned the gun came up behind me and put his hands over my ears before I fired. I shrugged them off and looked at him like, "thanks I don't need that..."

I needed it!

robyn - That Premier kit idea isn't half bad! I think you'd like the sound of a 60's Premier and you already have that floor tom. If you decide to look into cymbals, allow me to introduce you to a Turkish cymbal company that makes very high quality and affordable cymbals: Istanbul/Agop, or Mehmet cymbals. Check out the site... do some window shopping. :D

http://istanbulcymbals.com/products.html

I'm not just hyping a company either, I own four cymbals from them and they are the best I've ever owned. Like getting a $1500 K for $350!

It's always huge fun looking for and thinking about stuff to spend your money on!
