My boys will get the drums. We've all talked about it. I hope that they keep them and pass them on to their children. They all know the years and history of them. My stuff isn't very rare or valueable just some cool old gear. They'll dig it hopefully. By all means my daughter is included but she hasn't shown much interest in the drums. She'll get the cash. ;)

BTW very good topic~~!!!

Glenn.

Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

All my percussion goes to my brother in Portland, OR, unless one of my kids takes up a serious interest.

I got a friend's son interested in drums a few years ago and he's already in an up-and-coming high school rock band that has recorded a CD and plays regularly around Santa Barbara, plus he plays in a drum corps, so he's already way better than I am.

I have already supplied him with a set of loaner cymbals that will (as yet unbeknownst to him) become his upon his HS graduation.

I'll give him first crack at whatever he wants, then a nephew can have at it if he wants. My executor can sell off the rest and split the proceeds amongst my beneficiaries.

Sadly i think most of our gear is not worth what we think it is. Only the rare and obvious will sell, but the question is, to who? I,ve told my boys i will leave them both something but i want it kept in the family for generations to come, so value is not an issue to me, its the heirloom factor. I also said if they sell anything they better believe in ghosts because i,ll be haunting them till thier last days.Eye Ball

My wife and children. As I get older I will rinse my collection down to the very best I have which either they or they're children will enjoy, or will be able to easily quantify and release with ease.

It's weird to think that potentially they could be subscribing to this site in 40 odd years time to inquire to the value of my gear!! It's possible!

Interesting topic here. My wife and daughters know enough to contact someone to determin the value, they wont just set them on the curb or just hand them to an auctioneer. They also know how much happiness these old tubs bring to me so I am sure they would actually just keep some of them. I have things from my dad that I will never have a use for, but I will never sell them either, its dads!

Thank you!

My one and only son gets it all , he's at the tender age of 13 and he knows daddy's drum collection are not to be traded for hockey cards and hot wheels.

All interesting thoughts shared here, and true I think we all tend to think our gear is worth more than what the market could bring. But it is OUR gear, and that is what matters. If I was 45 years younger I would ask that some of you adopt me. In the event any of you would still like to adopt a 60 year old, let me know. I'm homeless right now so I'm available ...Excited

I'm taking them with me!

You know a brass snare could make an awesome urn.

Or maybe some bass drums butted up end to end ( depending on height and width) could make a cool casket!

All kidding aside, I have no children, my brother who is older than I by six years plays drums, so if either of us dies maybe the other would take the others drums, his are all newer, Starclassic, and Pearl vision series. My younger sister can play, but I doubt she would really have use for eight plus sets.

I know my brother in law would love a set, but won't let me build or give one to him now will take one after I'm gone.

In the end it will have no bearing on me, it will be up to you guys ( vintage drum hounds) to find them on Craigslist, in junk stores, estate sales or where ever they will end up. I can try to control where they go after I'm gone but not really. Unless I sell them now, which so far has been really hard to do (for the normal reasons collectors can't sell things, ie markets bad, I'm still looking for the matching snare, I can't get what it's worth ect.)

I have come to accept the following idea:

I don't own them, I'm just custodian of them for a while.

I like Drums...
