Wives . . . a mystery Last viewed: 14 minutes ago

My wife plays music. But she also runs the budget. Finally today I attempted to synthesize my current drum dilemma with her.

1. I want to buy a 12/13/16/22 kit for my band gigs.

2. Thinking of birch instead of maple.

3. A friend is selling Yamaha 8000 series - birch and luan - reasonable price.

4. But the same friend called me to say a drum store has a black Yamaha RC kit in those sizes, ex-hire, $1500.

Wife's response "I'd rather you bought that new Sakae kit you want. Save a bit and order it before the end of of the financial year. Why buy another black kit of secondhand drums? The Sakae will be better drums and you can get them in a nice colour"

Me (shocked) "They're $4000"

Wife "Well, you don't buy a brand new drum set every day. Sell a kit. It's a tax deduction."

I came away from this conversation completely flummoxed. I've been married a long time. Still learning though.

We should make your wife the leader of all wives in the universe and let her "set the example" for the other wives!

Cool. Enjoy the drums.

And when exactly did you think you would stop learning about spouses?

sounds a lot like mine. every few weeks or so, I drag something out of my drum room, take pics and list to sell. I leave them out here in my music listening/computer room until they are sold. she most always asks me...."now tell me again why you are selling these?" she wants me to keep it all!

Without her support… no vintage drum collection. She has learned about the drums I collect, makers, badges, lugs, hardware and anytime she's out with a girlfriend and passes a pawn shop or buy & sell, she stops and checks it out for drums! I've gotten calls from her asking me if such and such a drum is any good, is it something I'd be interested in. That kind of support can't be bought for love or money. I feel very lucky to have her as a partner.

John

Too many great drums to list here!
