Good job on the restoration, that drum would fit nicely into any collection, be proud of your efforts...have your wife email me and I'll show her what my wife puts up with...I guarantee that you will be off the hook.

Agree John...only reason I picked up the SSK, was because it looked like it was in such sad shape and missing pieces. Thought I could pick it up cheap, since there wasn't much interest. Paid a little more than I thought I would, but I'm very happy with the way it turned out.

I guess if I HAVE to sell something, it might be my Powertone, as I love my Dyna and won't part with that one.

Mike, yeah, I've told her about some of "you!" Interestingly, years back I developed and ran a dedicated website for Vintage Tama Superstars. I met two guys that have unbelievably large collections. One guy, who is married with kids, has a number of large Superstar kits. He actually has a huge family room that he took over to put his kits in, even has a raised section (platform) for some of them. Told my wife about him and she shook her head and said "what they hell is his wife thinking!" Last time I spoke to him, his wife made him give up the room to make it a real family room for their kids.....'nuff said! Eye Ball

Oh, the other guy has one kit that is made up of three separate kits, so he can play with his two drummer friends at the same time! I know there are bands like the Allman Bros who had two drummers, but this kit seats three and they are all connected!

From Vipuronr

I am happy with how it came out, certainly does not meet the standard of collectable condition, but definitely a nice looking drum

That drum looks very "collectable" to me !?

Congratulations !

A beautiful restoration job! You have every right to be proud! Honestly, I didn't think you'd find some of those parts. Glad to know that there are those out there who collect all these parts over the years. Had it not been for this forum, and the internet, many of us would be left with unfinished drums. Ok, let's not forget eBay, too!

Again, kudos on the fine job! Cool1

Makurtz, I have not seen any parts for SSK's since buying mine, except for an occasional COS/COB 10-lug hoop. While I probably didn't notice any for sale because I wasn't thinking about buying one, there appear to be almost none for sale. There was one from a dealer a few months ago on Ebay, but it was missing pieces, had an extra hole and was a bit overpriced for its condition (my opinion)...though, since they are rare, not sure what a good one is worth! Other than this one, haven't seen any. Here is the link:http://www.ebay.com/itm/270807980381...84.m1438.l2649But, good luck on the hunt!

Thanks for the heads-up. Sure it's not gonna be easy. Of course if it was easy, it wouldn't be "collectable", right? Looking for that score is half the fun!

Hope the Mrs. lets you keep all of your toys!

Nice job! I've got one I bought off the Bay almost complete myself, still looking for the snare gate guards & a few screws. Had my workbench shelf unit collapse on me & still trying to separate vintage nuts/bolts/screws from 10 decades...what a nightmare!

Beautiful drum!Clapping Happy2

I agree Makurtz, it's about the hunt...though I wasn't actually hunting and the SSK wasn't even on my radar. It just happened to show up when I did a search for Sound Kings...there it was, looking for a home and then I showed up!!!! :)

iDrum....thanks for the kind words and I am very proud of it. Not exactly sure how to tune the wires, but I'll play with it...since there are four adjustments, two strainers and then the tightness of the mounting rods with adjustment knobs.

But, you're definitely correct....the internet and certainly this forum have contributed very much to me getting this finished. Ebay, only for the hoop, but it is a primo hoop and I picked it up for a fair price.

Cool1

Thanks Fungus.....seems snare guard is a needle in a haystack...the few SSK's I've seen either have one or none (2nd generation), though honestly, only seen a few by doing a Google search...

Mine also came short of the correct number of tension rods, so I used the earlier square heads that I had laying around....on the list to change when I can.

Happy that once clean, has few dents/dings and mosts scratches are surface and not that noticeable.
