I've been subjected to way more than my share of 'angry-troll abuse' since I joined VDF. Thankfully, the incidents are few and far in-between... but they do happen. There's no glossing over that reality. You learn to deal with it and move on. Whizzing and pooting and fussing and fighting is rare, but it most certainly does happen.

So, new guy... don't let the occasional head-butting scare you off. There's a bunch of really great guys here. You just need to take the time to find out who they are and then simply ignore it when the occasional broo-ha-ha breaks out. The Mulligans can actually be very entertaining when viewed from the side-lines. When you are sucked into one of those soap-opera's, then it's not so entertaining. VDF is a cool place, but $hit does happen!

That's the real deal...

John

One thing I'll add to Fishwaltz's comments is at the end of the Camco LA era there was some pretty free and easy stuff going on with hardware and shells, according to my source, via GonBop. I wrote a longish thread at one point which I now can't find and which I won't repeat in too much detail here about the Copenhagen, Denmark shop Drumstick (still in existence today).

They couldn't get hold of the Camco agency for Denmark as Camco was in the process of being sold off. But they did get a significant number of shells and hardware and put these together with Tama hardware in Denmark, selling them under the moniker PJ Drums. I saw a few such kits, always lacquered, often in non Camco shades like burnt orange. If I saw that many out being played or up for resale it suggests there were quite a few more. I don't think there was a badge - at best a silver sticker with black lettering.

Are they Camco? Nope, they're PJ. I did manage to pick up a significant amount of "back room" Camco spares from Drumstick as recently as 2005/6 as a result of that historical quirk. Cleaned them out, in fact.

But, as Dolfan say, you'd need pictures to see if these are the real deal.

And welcome Mr Nucks.

Well, I can't wait for that to be verified. I would like to sell my "Camco" just by saying they left the factory without the badge. The snare is below the shell in the pic.

Hard to see the shell in that pic Rik but doesn't look like there's any glue rings and that would be the first thing I'd expect to see.

If it looks anything like the shell in the foreground of the picture (which it may do but, again, hard to tell), I'd say not, as in, Camco or DW lugs on another shell. It looks like it's painted grey. Rule of thumb is Oaklawn (and Chanute) period Camcos will have clear interiors if they were lacquered drums and white painted interiors if they were wrapped. LA period all the shells were (very thinly) clear lacquered.

What do the lugs look like on the inside? There's a difference even there between Camco and early DW, for example.
