Best Drummer Ever????? Last viewed: 0 seconds ago

Loading...

I think Tommy & Dave will forgive me for posting this off-topic thread after they see this video!

I'm 65 years old. I've been playing drums and listening to other drummers for half a century. I'm here to testify that I have never heard a drummer as good as this guy! No 'over the top' exaggerating on my part. Just listen. Dylan Elise, who I had never heard of until yesterday, is simply one of the most amazing drummers I've seen or heard. Form your own opinions.

This guy is a chops and groove Master Extraordinaire! Enjoy...

Jeff - Gather up all the drum sticks in the house and ask your wife to hide them from you -before- you watch the video!

Like me, you're going to want to break all your sticks and throw them away after you hear this guy! No BS.

Right from 30 seconds into the vid I could tell this guy spent time in some Corps' drumline. His rudimental snare work and rim shots gave it away. I was just waiting to see him sneak in some backsticking and stick tosses, and sure enough, there they were toward the end of the vid. Phenomenal, but nothing short of the amazing sticking that's demonstrated in drum corps' throughout the country at any college football game.

Notice at the beginning how the mildy-amused crowd is just politely bopping and smiling through his amazing snare work but then erupts into applause and hoots when he hits some simple rhythm on the cowbells. Typical non-musician audience. You could play the most complicated, syncopated beat in 7/8 time and get no response from your crowd, but just start double-bassing and randomly smack every cymbal in front of you and they go nuts. Go figure.

So where is this guy playing? From the costumes and balconies on the buildings, this must be Mardi Gras on Bourbon Street?

This cat is a seriously talented drummer. Yes, I hear his 'Drum Corp.' roots in his playing, but when you're playing a 20 minute solo at warp speed, you reach into your bag of tricks and pull out all your 'A' material! That includes Latin, jazz, rock grooves, second line, the man pulls out all the stops. The comments that the people in the crowd made; "Awesome," and, "He's the best drummer in the world," is the kind of response we all 'hope for' when we play. He blows people away. Where I come from, we used to call that; 'kicking a$$ and taking names later!'

The guy is an entertainer/showman. The stick-tricks are cool and all that, but as a drummer, I'm impressed with his ease playing cross-overs at 200+bpm. The single stroke rolls, the one-handed rolls, it's amazing. His internal 'lick library' is bottomless. I just haven't seen a drummer this talented since... ever! Anybody this good, deserves International exposure. He'll be a Star over-night! This kid belongs in L.A. or New York, or even Nashville! Any center of recording in this country would put this kid straight to work.

More... enoy.
