The loon didn't think Dennis was the bees knees He thought the Beach Boys was. Funny you would use Moonie as your poster child, considering that one post you made About, American musicians are far better than any British musicians. And doing a great deal of back pedaling here ole boy..would you like me to copy and paste some of your rants about the Beatles, Ringo, and Ludwig there are many !!! I was alive when this all happened you weren't. The Beatles made a far bigger impact than the Beach Boys did. it just is the way it is, your ranting will not ever change that. one group is not better than the other, they both had and have their place. Loved and love them both, To address one of your misinformed comments, the drummer that sold more Camco's was actually Doug Clifford. not Dennis Wilson.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

...and hence why Camco went belly up: limited visibility. No disrespect to either Wilson or Clifford, or Ceroli for that matter, but they just were not "household" names. It is quite possible that the most famous drummer of all time is Animal from the Muppets so let's be irked by that as well shall we. It is the nature of celebrity. The populace know those that are readily recognizable through fame. Talent has never been the most critical component to achieving fame. If it were, no one would know of Paris Hilton or any Kardashian siblings.

Regarding Kooks's comment "....that sound better." According to who? It's all opinion.

I can't work out any more then that it's a double bass kit with single headed floor toms and no mounted toms or hats... any idea on the brand?

....I'm taking the **** a little here. But it's an interesting concept; if Animal is the most famous drummer of all time, then technically that also makes Ronnie Verrell the most famous drummer of all time (who played Premier, by the way). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronnie_Verrell

But we all know really that's all a crock to try and argue it against Ringo and his black oyster Ludwigs.

So I thought about that a little after posting last night. It would be interesting to create a poster of famous drummer head shots but include no names. I think you would at least include the following:

Animal

Buddy Rich

Ringo Starr

John Bonham

Neil Peart

Keith Moon

Dave Grohl

Vinny Coliauta

Dave Weckl

And add anyone else you like

Then ask the average person on the street to name as many "famous drummers" as possible. Anyone wanna guess who would win? I would pretty much be certain it would be Animal by a landslide followed by Ringo in a distant second and then everyone else would just get the occasional recognition from musicians or fans. Dave Grohl would probably finish pretty high but still way behind Animal. If I were retired and bored out of my mind, I would spend a couple of afternoons doing that. I am neither retired or bored, so that is not going to happen.

As to Animal's kit, there was a thread about that a few years ago. Maybe it was Bunnyman that was considering building an Animal tribute kit. By the way, Moon didn't use hi-hats either for a period. :-) It does look like "he" has a hi-hit hat over on the stage right side - perhaps an early iteration of the X-hat. That Animal; always on the cutting edge.

...but a lot of guys love or have loved Ludwig snares... JohnnyZ is right, a bad drummer can make any drum sound worse.

Moon used a slosh hat fixed the way he liked it on his right. The intro for Who Are You is a good example of how he liked the slosh hat.

To the topic, build quality and durability are keys for a quality drum, but the player makes it sound good.

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

By a slosh hat you mean a pair of hats on a straight stand pre-fixed together? So it's almost like a stack?

They aint "rants", theyre spiels. And its not about undermining the over-credited or hyping up the underrated... there was NOTHING great about ringo ,ya cant put him in the same league as krupa ,rich, blaine, and palmer I mean c'mon! The same way ringo inspired limey kids to pick up the sticks is the same way dennis inspired countless american kids to pick up sticks. Hal blaine was, is and will always be the greatest/most important drummer of the last fifty years- period.°

Since this thread has gone sideways anyway let me add that Krupa, Rich, Blaine, Palmer Purdie, Muhammad, Ringo, Wilson,Moon,Wood, Peart and Copeland (among others) are all magnificent drummers. Also Camco, Ludwig, Rogers, Slingerland and Gretsch (among others) have produced mind boggling drums. I like to have time to forget gear and songs and then fall back in love with them when the timing is right. At that precise moment the snare or the drummer is the "best".
