The bass drum is done! My Ghod in Heaven, you have to hear this thing!!!!!!!!!! Greg - I used an Evans EMAD on the batter as you recommended. Good call! I've got a coated REMO Emperor on the reso side tuned to an F-note. No additional muffling added inside or out. Just the EMAD rings are enough. The bass drum sings!John

Very cool John! About the only other thing I do is maybe lay a folded up towel inside at the bottom of the bass drum, but not touching the heads. Or an Evans pad. Jerry uses the Evans pad touching the batter head, for that Blaemire thump! I tend to run them a little more open, especially playing unmiced gigs. If I need max volume, I'll even pull out the ring.

I always loved to take a shot of the inside of any bass drum I covered.

You are now part of a cool club John.

Not sure how low you tuned that bass drum...but lay it on its side and stretch/press in the middle of both heads and then run them pretty loose. You can tune them down to a pitch that makes grown men weep.

Enjoy!

Now you guys just stop it! I am going to end up buying a whole kit if I am not careful.

Jinx, I've seen that mod orange kit on Jammin Sam's web site and always thought it was particularly fantastic.

Man, Jinx, I remember drooling over those projects back at DFO a few years back when you were doing them. You and Greg and Scott have all contributed to my Blaemire fever. I can't tell you how good it feels to finally scratch that itch!

Greg - I like to run them more open sounding too. I'm not a big 'thud' fan. I really enjoy the sound of musical sounding drums, drums that produce a distinct note when you hit them. One of the things I enjoy about playing is coming up with melodic riffs and runs. You need a well-tuned kit to pull off 'that sound.' If I wanted thuds, I can get that out of a Kent snare drum, a suitcase for a bass, and 5 gallon plastic buckets for toms.

These are my Blaemires... I'm going to tune them to sing-out.

More photos coming soon. I've got the bass drum, the floor tom and the 12 ready to rock. All I have to do to finish is, add the Ludwig tom mounts that Mike Layton sent me, tomorrow. After that, it's 'fine tuning', set-up and play!

John

PS - ... and photos for you guys!

Too many great drums to list here!

Greg - Jerry gave me the name of the guy that built that wrapping-rig for him, I just couldn't afford it at the time. But that photo blew my mind when I first saw it at the other place because of that 'laundry-wringer machine' set-up for wrapping drums. It's just a genius thing, that wrapping/roller machine. I may still invest in one. I have a bunch of projects lined up and I'll be doing some wrapping.

Bet you can roll some seriously long scooby-doobies in that thing! LOL

John a few guys on Ghost-Note built those wrap machines. Some use old offset press rollers (soft) for the roller part. The rest is not all that complicated and they are pretty easy to make really. Take a poke around there when you have some time.

Glenn - thanks for the lead! Will do.

Ok, the only thing missing at this point (and it'll be here today!) is the two Ludwig tom mounts. Once they're installed, I can throw the batter heads on the toms and tune them up.

I'm running the new coated Evans G2, '360' heads on the batter side of the three toms and Evans clear, Control Dot heads on all the reso sides. The bass drum has a REMO coated Emperor reso head and I'm using an Evans EMAD on the batter.

I swapped out all of the claws and tees on the bass drum for 50's/60's Ludwig Faucet handle T-rods. The bass drum looks killer. I added Air-Cushioned rubber feet to the bass drum spurs and to the floor tom legs. All drums are ready to resonate! I'm still trying to figure out what to do about that awful Tama tom mount that is on there.

Thanks to Greg for the great Blaemire logo for the bass drum head. It looks really cool and it puts the 'finishing touch' on the kit. Here are some shots of the drums all cleaned, polished and (almost) ready to rock. More photos after they are complete and set-up.

Enjoy...

Hey John,

Looking good. Is this your first EMAD head? It looks like you have both foam rings stuffed in there. You only use one at a time, either one or the other.

Btw, love those faucet t-handles.
