Thanks Glenn!

Stephen, I am one of those people who didn't realize at first that the extension arm came with all of these drums :). You almost never see them pictured and in 3 yrs of looking at sales on the internet I had never seen one for sale. Its great that Olympic decided to make these. They seem like a great place to buy gear and I will hope to pick up more from them in the future.

James,

I didn't know either until a couple of years ago, when I saw a picture of one with the extension intact. I asked Scott if they could have a couple made for me, and they decided to make a run of them. I hope they sell well.

Fingers crossed that it fits on Glenn's drum, as I think part of his strainer is a reproduction itself.

Stephen,

Yes my handle is a reproduction from Emory @ drumatix. I'm hoping it fits too. It should be here by Tues and I'll update everyone. I don't have a original handle to compare Emory's too. But there's some side by side pics on his page of the original and his reproduction handle. It's a very well made part. I know Jim Petty sells a reproducion handle too. Not sure if it's one he makes himself or if he gets them from Emory. Would be interesting to find out. With the new extension arm serated at the bottom I think it'll be fine. We'll all know pretty soon.

Ace, thanks for the pics. Interesting note on the 3rd pic is the first short shell clamshell has the body over the bracket. I think Slingerland should have stuck with this design. With the bodys on the inside of the bracket it seems they can bend/twist easier after time. Thicker gauge material or a even pot metal casting for the body would have helped too. Oh well little too late for my thoughts. ;)

Something I just noticed on my drum. I have the throw body on the wrong side. Looking at the pic of James snare and a few others I have it backwards. The drum came with a Pearl strainer and only the original tension side clamshell. Guess they got swapped at some point. I'll have to swap them around now. Laughing H Dang I just got it dialed in all nice too!!

I sent Emory at Drumatix a email asking if he knew about Scotts new extension handles. He did not and is very interested to see if they fit his reproduction handles. So I plan to send him pictures and a update soon as results are in.

Interesting. This was Emory's reply to me when I inquired about him having some made:

"Stephen, Hello, thanks for calling. Re. your quest for a/some 'clamshell' snare strainer handle(s) w/the extension lever. Sorry to say I don't have that item. Nor do I have any leads for you. I've actually never had one that's intact so that I could have it reproduced. An original one that's complete and in working condition is very difficult to find. If there's any other item(s) I can help you with, please let me know.

Thanks,Emory"

Sounds like it would benefit both parties if these fit and are successful.

Yes indeed that would be great for be great for both of them. Seeing how any type of parts for these strainers are few and far between I hope it's a plug and play situation. Even if some minor adjustments are required that's not a big deal either.

Interesting.....my clamshell lever is a repro although I do not know of what make. The extension lever fits just fine inside of it so here's to hoping that yours will fit nicely as well. Too bad about having to rearrange the casing after getting your drum dialed in Glenn. I find that these are super finicky drums to tune, but once they are dialed in, you can't beat them.
