DW or Rogers? Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Hi Folks. I am new here

I always liked the old drums. In fact I had in mind buying a Ludwig but ended up buying a DW performance because I found a good deal and sounded fantastic to me.

I am mainly a guitar player who plays only vintage stuff but don't know a lot about drums.... I just play them :)

As I always have the "vintage-bug" in my head, a friend of mine offered me to trade his 24/18/16/13 1972 Rogers for my DW (20x16, 10x8, 12x9, 14x12)

What do you think about the trade? The Rogers is all original in great shape and my DW is like 5 months old.

I like to play old style rock, some funk and even jazz (did I say that???)

Here's the Rogers:

This is a good example of tone that I like

I have DW Collectors series, I would take the Rogers kit simply due to the sizes I don't like the performance sizes your kit has. Also the Rogers kit has better resale value.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Rogers will def get you more of the vintage vibe, but those are huge tubs. If you like the sizes then go for it; if not, then I'd hold off.

I messed with a DW Perf in a store the other day...was not impressed. Sounded like a very plain, long sustain, generic maple shell to me. But the DW Maple-mahogany series...that's a whole other ball game!

I own a late 90's DW set in those sizes you have.

I like it a lot but I would probably trade for the Rogers if it was offered to me. :D

I would trade for those Rogers.

The Performance series is great but Green Sparkle and those sizes are pretty awesome to see, not very common from what I've seen.

If that's the original wrap on the Rogers I would be at the guy's door in 5 min with the DW's, some flowers for her wife and toys for his kids...LoLoLoLo

Thanks very much for all you VERY interesting suggestions. I will let my ears decide tomorrow when I will play the Rogers.

From the pictures it looks like the heads don't all match, so keep in mind that heads have a huge impact on the sound. Take the time to tune them as well, some guys are great players but terrible at tuning. And even though that kit is gorgeous it can still sound like crap from tuning and heads.

Rogers any day, that DW Performance kit won't be worth diddlysquat in a few years, plus the Rogers will sound better and definitely are cooler.Cool1

I'd go for the rogers. I played with a band recently and they have a rogers kit in their practice room and it sounds great.
