I also would go with the Rogers. They should sound great with the right heads and tuning. DW's have never appealed to me.
DW or Rogers? Last viewed: 59 seconds ago
As a life long owner of a Rogers 24, 13, 16, 18........ since 1979, I added the 16 thirteen years ago......
I would go with the Rogers. Put a PS3 on the batter side of the bass, keep the fiberskyn, and use single ply Ambassador coated on top, clears on bottom.
And I did pass up the chance for a DW Collectors set in 2004 to purchase a 20-12-16 set of 1964 Rogers three ply in Wine Red Ripple. I do not regret that one bit.
Make sure you check out those bottom side bearing edges on the Rogers. 40 years is a long life and in the 70s..... well, a lot of folks thought concert toms sounded better. Another thing to check out would be the collet tensioners for cracks. Replacements and machined originals are readily available to swap out with the 9/.72 cast noses.
If it is a rewrap..... pass.

hands down Rogers and in those sizes and that color you are getting a great deal and you can play all the old school rock you like with that set....

Those Rogers drums are awesome! Dayton era, I would think, as that color was only catalogued through 1967. All of this is assuming that the wrap is original. VERY rare color!
Trade for the Rogers and spend some time with them. Try different heads, different tunings, etc. If you still don't like them, I'm sure you could find someone else out there who would trade you a DW Performance set for them. Heck, I would even be inclined to buy a DW Performance kit just to trade for those Rogers...
1965 Ludwig Hollywood
1970 Ludwig Jazzette
Who cares if it's a re-wrap, as long as the drums are in good shape, they will still sound and look better than the DW's, unless you're looking for re-sale value. Even if you are, they should still hold a better value than a used DW Performance kit.
I went there with my DW ready to check what the Rogers was worth.
Apparently everything is original and it is in incredible good shape. Looks amazing in person.
I started playing it and I was VERY impressed. Vintage tones all around. Old rock machine.
We were discussing how we could arrange the trade and this is how it went:
- DW Performance (including snare) + Zildjian K-series pack (no hardware)
- Rogers + Ludwig LM400 Supra Phonic + couple of old dark sounding cymbals + two old cymbal stands
I am VERY happy with the trade. I love how the Ludwig snare sounds and never liked the Zildjian K. even they were new. Too bright.
I have cleaned the drum very well. I will need some hours with the cymbals....

Now the drum after some work. Clean and neat.

Nice trade, glad that is the original finish.
'Green Sparkle' was offered thru the 1970 catalog, it was discontinued in the early 70's, before the 1976 catalog was issued.
Which tags are in those drums?
