I think you made a great trade, don't listen to those grumpy old men that get all bent out of shape if something as minor as a tension rod is not original. Have a great time playing them.
DW or Rogers? Last viewed: 5 minutes ago
Its not grumpy old men. Its a whole lot more about being honorable, having integrity, and telling the truth about what you are selling. Some people do that, some don't. I know which side of that issue to find you on.

Sometimes we assume the sellers should know as much about what they are selling as "we" do and that is just not the case. There are plenty of people selling items they know nothing about and there are plenty of drummers, even professional, who do not know much more. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt as I would appreciate the same should the situation be reversed.
That is a great kit and I hope you enjoy it for a very long time!

What the guy knew about a rewrap and extra holes is visible on the inside of the drum.
Maybe he did not know. However we do see plenty of drums misrepresented by the sellers who know what they are selling.
They are nice drums, rewrapped or not. Be happy.

Agreed. My point is simply that I have run into numerous pro drummers that wouldn't know a re-wrap from an original finish.

Very nice trade, I would've done the same. As far as the seller knowing or not knowing about the possible re-wrap and patch that's irrelevant. I always try to go into a deal with as much info as I can gather so I know what I'm looking at. Mistakes happen and I've ended up with some questionable drums in the past. I never blame the seller, I blame myself for not knowing all the facts.
Maybe it's a rewrap, maybe it's not. But if you like them and are overall happy with the deal, that's what really counts.
Dan C and Ploughman are the best Rogers experts I know of and have given you great info and tips on what to look for. They are here to help and in no way are they grumpy old men.

Hi Folks. I am new hereI always liked the old drums. In fact I had in mind buying a Ludwig but ended up buying a DW performance because I found a good deal and sounded fantastic to me. I am mainly a guitar player who plays only vintage stuff but don't know a lot about drums.... I just play them :) As I always have the "vintage-bug" in my head, a friend of mine offered me to trade his 24/18/16/13 1972 Rogers for my DW (20x16, 10x8, 12x9, 14x12) What do you think about the trade? The Rogers is all original in great shape and my DW is like 5 months old. I like to play old style rock, some funk and even jazz (did I say that???)Here's the Rogers:This is a good example of tone that I likehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHjz-qLizAc&feature=player_embeddedThanks!
I see you like the Gretsch tone too. The Rogers a re a little more resonant from what I have experienced and i would take them over any DW except maybe the DW jazz which might sound somewhat close to the Gretsch in the video you referenced. But not really according to some...
they look so good

I don't like people misrepresenting drums either, but at the same time, if the buyer knows what to look for, he will know if it's original or not. All I'm saying is some buyers don't care if it's a re-wrap or if a few tension rods are not original. It's not like he forked over a few g's thinking it was a collectors kit, he traded a DW Performance kit that will never be a collectors kit. In my opinion, he made a good trade, even if the Rogers is not all original.

Ya know, some days, it just seems like I woke up in a brand new world, where every evil has been put to right, and only good people live, and there is no hunger or poverty. The sun shines, angels sing.
