Yes blue will be fine too. I use it a lot here also. Great idea by Mitch and hope it fixes your hi hat!!
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

This looks to me like a workable fix.. nice one Mitch.. I'd suggest also check out the tip of the grubscrew & make sure it has plenty of bite.. I did some cymbal stand repairs recently and ground a spur point onto the grubscrews... They will never move..
Cheers

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Well, the little doohickey is on its way to you. As I mentioned in pm and for the other interested parties here, the allen screw is flat on the grabbing end and not very long, not much material to grind to a point, so if it don't hold a replacement screw will need to be sourced. However I think once the proper position is determined, a good "reefing" [as we used to say to denote tightening the crap out of something] will do the trick.
For obvious reasons I passed on tracking or insurance on this package. I got a bunch of em so if it don't show just let me know...
Thanks for the good words from you who liked my idea. Mechanical problems can be fun to tackle....when you win. :)
Also, Robyn has agreed she would send an early 60s white interior silver sparkle Club Date kit in return....if she could. :D

yeah, now every time i see a silver sparkle ClubDate, ill think of you Mitch :)
ill keep my eye open for the package, cant wait to get it, im anxious to try this lit'l booger out. been thinking about the concern of the doohicky staying in place. im thinking the lit'l gadget was designed to hold parts in place, so if i can get it tightened down good...it should do its job. well we will all soon find out.
im with you Mitch, i love tinkering with things and figuring out simple lit'l fixes. thanks for your time mitch.

I got to wondering just what this thing is, since I got it from a generically marked bin at a surplus store. If you type "drill bit shaft depth stop collar" into google images, I think you'll agree, that's what it is. :)
This is good news if it works; the thing is cheap and easily sourced. Performance-wise, while I don't think it's designed to withstand massive pressure from a crazy hamfisted drill press operator, at least the pressure from the spring will be varying but continuous - not a series of hard impacts.
Not go on about it lol...
