Lets discuss the bread and butter lugs Last viewed: 1 second ago

I don't really see how you damage the drums by installing bevertails, you basicly make the things playable, and I believe that drums should be played on.. Still I prefer the look of the b/b's and I'd more than gladly make a profit on fanatic collectors..

How can you NOT see it? You're modifying the drum from original by DRILLING holes! Anytime you drill or elongate holes, or modify in any way, you devalue a drum in the eyes of a collector. Yes the drum wil be playable again if you modify it to have later beavertail lugs, but at the same time the value of it just went out the window. You may as well fit Pearl or Tama lugs to it. The value of them will be the same. Like I said before its your drums, do as you like to them, but keep in mind when it comes time to sell them, they will be worth far less with beavertails on them than if you spent the dough on the repro B&B lugs to keep them "correct". :2Cents:

How about this,If you like the soumd, playability and functionality of rogers,You could maybe find tube lugs,or a builders supply lug that fits, play them that way and save the b+b's for photos, display and resale.Just thinking out loud here but has anyone seen a repro rogers kit for sale, and if you have how much did it sell for? I suppose if you had the money you could buy a set of repro lugs and collect b+b kits, and still have one kit you could play at a time,or keep flipping b+b kits until you paid for the repros.

The only lugs that I have ever seen that fit the B+B lug spacing are some Kent lugs.

I don't understand why no one else ever made lugs that fit that spacing. SO strange. Also, I don't understand why one of the big boys (worldmax) doesn't make a repro B+B. The Slingerland beavertail repro lugs at drumfactorydirect are super nice....and CHEAP. Why not do that to the B+B lugs? They look just as sexy!

I'm just guessing but I imagine the number of BnB kits is fairly limited. At least too limited to make a mass production of lugs for replacement.

It's all about supply and demand.

Actually its more about how they are made, than supply and demand. The Slingy repros are a cast lug. The repro B&B lugs are stamped steel....stamping steel is more expensive than casting zinc. Also, once the lugs are stamped there is some machine work required, possibly more than a regular cast lug would have.

So why cant they just make a cast version?

Allstar Drumworks will make lugs to any spacing you need.....I believe. Plus, they have a few different styles. I had them make a set of COB lugs for a snare I was building. GREAT quality and nice guys! The price wasn't bad either....less than $10 a lug....sorry I can't give specifics.....it's been a few years, haha.

....lovin' that vintage sound

We should start a serious campaign to get world max or one of those guys to make some cast B+B lugs. I know it is kind of a crappy thing to do to Petty, but man...he has a corner on all the Rogers repro parts. This would just be the lugs. It would sure be cool to get em for $4 each.

I wonder how we could go about asking them to consider it? I know I would get a pile of em! Plus it would be a cool thing for builders to have yet another nice vintage option.
