Ludwig Blue Oyster Pearl kit Last viewed: 5 minutes ago

Hi, love to have some info on this kit (Probeat?) Purchased new in 1980 (?) Seller has had the kit in storage since then. Cymbals and hardware included. Value? And worth? (two different questions there ;-) I have played 60's kits but not these. Thanks all.

I have owned a kit of 6 plies,and a S/L kit that had a 6 ply kick.

Generally very good drums,Seem to sound best going from med high down to low,and sound very good in those ranges, the six ply kicks are esp good IMO.

I think you got the best era of the 6 plies there, standard sizes, very cool wrap, and I like that hardware better then the super heavy duty stuff that came after.

In U.S. dollars in the U.S. I think 1000.00 tops unless you found a Bowling Ball wrap collector that wanted them, and they look like collector grade, 6 ply bowling ball kits I would think are pretty uncommon.

Could these possibly be three ply?

All original heads....YOWZA. My opinion is $1200+ and if you have the set of bongos, add another $150. If you can't take off the heads to see if they are 3 ply (which I am steering towards) give us the serials of the badges.

My guess after looking closer I don't see mufflers as they were not on the 6 plys

What's with all the conservative prices ? Lol ! I agree with surface-- Rare wrap finish, last of the golden era of Ludwig 70's drums.. What's not to like ? I'd say anywhere between $1200-1800..And if those are vintage A Zildjians, then look out ..;) Beautiful condition too ! I'd keep those beauties and play them as much as you can !;)

If the hardware (stands) are original to the set then they would more likely be early 70's (1975 or earlier) and 3 ply shells. Hard to say without more info but the tubular legged stands were introduced in late 1975. No muffler knobs would be odd though on a 3 ply set. Even a late 70's set should still have them although on those they placed the muffler directly opposite the mounting brackets on mounted toms.

"Purchased" in 1980 doesn't necessarily indicate the age of the drums as a set like that could conceivably languish in the inventory of a small "Mom & Pop" type music store for several years. They'd still be a "new" set when they were eventually sold.

The presence or lack of re-rings will tell the tale as far as the type of shell. The serial numbers can give you a rough idea of when they were built as well.

I see a tone control in the first pic, right high tom opposite the mount.

Wow that is a beautiful kit
