once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
Time waster. This is the real story:

Sincere thanks for all your replies.
Ouch! So where they 3 ply at least? Nice wrap project if they sold for a song.

Guessing 3 ply with clear maple as that outer ply is mahogany, just a guess. My brother had a set much like this one and it was 3 ply with clear maple inner, can't believe I didn't buy it from him actually :D
Did the seller post that very first photo where the kit looked pristine? And I actually have some spare of that wrap that came off a '60s shell. Was ripped so I salvaged what I could. But things like that kill me.

We all feel the pain we deal with yellowed and faded wraps but this is the last of the worst part so they become players kit but that being said that means a good sounding kit becomes asccesable to the poor joe who wants to play vintage drums

It has the smaller spurs and mahogany exterior ply, so I would assume it's a 3-ply kit. Nice kit even with the wrap issues.
I guess those were old pics he sent you because the damage isn't in the second pic

It can't be mahogany it has to be maple the wrap did not come out till late 60's early 70's

I think they were talking about the outer ply being mahogany. It looks to be, which would be correct for a wrapped shell usually.
