Love those pics.

Classic American 60's Lifestyle.

Just like my bedroom as a boy.

Except, you had more Pennants than I did.

I bet I had more models though.

Captures the joy of an era dude.

Great Stuff.

Wayne Brown!

Nah... you are correct!... no need to post this in the "Vintage Non-USA" section as the actual subject matter of your thread is about one's first drum set, and that will be "all brand inclusive" if you will. Enjoy!

That's me standing beside my new drums with my little cousin Christmas 1963.

After I beat those into oblivion I got a set called a "Liverpool Compact" for Christmas in 1965, then my first real 4 piece set with a hihat. A Whitehall set from Sears Christmas 1968. I will be celebrating my Golden drumming anniversary this Christmas, even though I had another little paper set and snare drums before 1963 at 3 till 6 years old. I remember watching a little combo band a couple months later one Sunday night on TV after that Christmas in 1963, and knew I had already found my calling.

My "used" Ludwigs on my 13th birthday in 1976. I set them up myself, as you can tell from the angle of the mounted tom.

Collecting information about the following for ongoing research projects:
Gretsch drums with serial numbers,
Ludwig Keystone and B/O badge drums with serial numbers and date stamps,
Ludwig Standards from 1968-73, and
Ludwigs with paper labels from 1971-72

Posted this before, but I think it was before the color adjustment. Think this is about '72, on my Coronet kit - dreaming of owning a set of Pearls, not realizing I had one...

Photo from 1989 in Columbus, Ohio. My first kit was a 1977 Slingerland 13-14-15-16 concert tom set with an 18" FT and 24" BD. Columbus Percussion modified it for me in 1982 by installing bottom rims on the 14 and 15 toms and drilling the bass drum for a Tama post (these drums were not vintage then!).

Note my name on the front head, just like Bun E.

These drums were donated to an unknown musician in New Orleans in 2006 in the aftermath of Katrina.
