ok guys, got the drum kit on its way, should be here by the end of this week or first part of next week. again very excited and can't wait til they get here. now i need help deciding which tie-dye pattern to go with. i have narrowed it down to two patterns and would like some input on which i should go with.

pattern #1:[Attachment: 55061]

pattern #2:[Attachment: 55062]

i can get either pattern in wallpaper or cloth. which would be better to use? either way i plan to cover with some kind of clear coat. any ideas or suggustion are welcome. thanks

I like pattern one, it seems a little more trippy. As far as wall paper or cloth, I really dont know what to say except that is a first. I work with wood and know nothing about those materials as far as how they will get along with the clear finish. If I was you I would see whats under the astro turf on the kit that is coming before I got to involved. Do us a favor and show some pics of the new drums when you get them. Before and after the astro turf removal.

Thank you!

i promise i will post photos as soon as i can. i am curious about what is under that astro turf too. in a way i am hoping for some messed up wrap coz if i like what is under there too well, then i will just have to save up for another kit coz i really got my heart set on a tie-dye kit. i know, silly me. lol.

this kit is suppose to be my project kit. don't think i can fit two drum sets in my shed, but i will if i have too. :D

oh and i have worked with both materials and am much better with wallpaper but am not sure what the clear coat will do to it, have never coated wallpaper b4. have coated pictures b4, it did ok but if i didn't get the edge glued down good it kinda turned them up. i think i just used a pollyurthan (???) can't remember, been a long time ago, lol.

Sounds like an interesting project. I have seen guys cover drums with polyester fabric and it looked pretty good. Certainly interesting.

I actually like pattern #2 as I prefer the higher contrast in the colors and it looks a bit like fractals which I find interesting.

Good luck whatever you choose to do.

There is info on cloth wrapped drums, I think it was Slingerland that made a levi`s wrap and the word is it kills the tone,..something to look into. the cloth is more durable but i don`t know what a paper will do to the tone. Either way it is very important that the wrap is fully adhered with no air pockets.

Cool i like pattern #2.As far as wallpaper or cloth, i would go with wallpaper with a clear coat over it.I don't think a clear coat over cloth would work very well..

The best way i would do is get pattern #2 made into a sticker roll, put it on the drum with a clear coat on top...Mikey

Wallpaper, it's like decoupage. One factor being, if the paper is vinyl or is vinyl coated you may have adhesion issues with the clear coat. Simple paper, you're good to go. You can with fabric and an old BD flesh hoop is make a dummy head out of it for a total tie dyed look.

I thought of Jimi Hendrix when looking at pattern #2, my choice.
