don't feel bad jeff, i was liking #1 real well too til i came across #2, then thats when it all went undecidable (is that a word) lol.
we still got a few days so #1 still has a chance.
There is info on cloth wrapped drums, I think it was Slingerland that made a levi`s wrap and the word is it kills the tone,..something to look into. the cloth is more durable but i don`t know what a paper will do to the tone. Either way it is very important that the wrap is fully adhered with no air pockets.
what would happen if i get air pockets?
i did do a lit'l searching and found that fabric has been used quite a bit for wraps and seems to be pretty easy to do. haven't found anything on wallpaper yet but don't see any reason why it wouldn't work.
Im thinking wallpaper will be to delicate. I wouldnt be too concerned about the fabric efecting the sound unless your planning on setting them up in a recording studio. I get the feeling these drums will be for your own enjoyment. I say dont worry about it and go for it. The farbric would be better, but then again I voted for pattern 2 so what do I know!
This conversation may be completely pre-mature depending on what you find under the 'turf'.
It seems most anything would do on the shell and nothing would be 'delicate' considering that you are going to clear coat over it.
If you must rip off the wrap under the turf, my vote is for #1 as it is more classic. Save any removed wrap though as it may be useful for somebody on here.

Yay! I knew someone would join me.
What I mean by delicate is that fabric would be stronger than paper. Your not going to be protecting much with spray can clear finish anyway. But as John (and me) says, lets see whats under the turf first.
kinda bummin here, my drums won't be here til monday afternoon, they are sitting about 60 miles from me for the weekend, and i am working 2nd sht now so won't get to do much with them til tuesday morn. this waiting thing is getting very intense. am very anxious to find out what is under that astro turf and to see just exactly what these drums are. are they my future tie-dye kit or am i gonna have to go shopping again? lol.

i promise i will save any removed wrap, but if this kit is something "special" i promise i won't do anything to it but clean it up and play the piggy skins right off her. D' Drummer
Funny enough, both patterns are very cool and psychedelic in each of their own right..........the first one is more consistent and probably would suit best for a drum pattern. The second, although awesome may just be way over the top......guitar3

60 miles?? Wouldn't it have been cheaper to pay $20 in gas to go get them yourself? Then you would be jonesin' to get out of work I suppose!

Wrinkles with the paper and stretching with the fabric.
I don`t think the paper, vinyl or not will have any more affect than wraps.
How thick or what kind of fabric are you gonna use ?
