60 miles?? Wouldn't it have been cheaper to pay $20 in gas to go get them yourself? Then you would be jonesin' to get out of work I suppose!John

they been traveling all week from oragon and if i'd known they was gonna stop for the weekend this close to me i would of made arrangements to pick them up today. and you are right, would be really hard to go to work.

Yay! I knew someone would join me.What I mean by delicate is that fabric would be stronger than paper. Your not going to be protecting much with spray can clear finish anyway. But as John (and me) says, lets see whats under the turf first.

If he brushes on several coat of polyurethane, it will be protected as much as a stained shell would be. The fabric will pull and bubble around the lugs, seen it happen.

Wrinkles with the paper and stretching with the fabric.I don`t think the paper, vinyl or not will have any more affect than wraps. How thick or what kind of fabric are you gonna use ?

ok i see what you are saying now and will be very carefull with which ever way i decide to go with. thanks for the tip. the fabric will be a cotton linnen, like bed sheets are made from and the wall paper will be just a regular paper wallpaper.

I thought of Jimi Hendrix when looking at pattern #2, my choice.

i agree purple haze

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

you mean...if SHE brushes.......

will i still have that problem with the fabric if i pull it tight as i wrap and glue it?

Robyn,

This is not a method I would suggest normally but I have seen it done. It will certainly impact the tone of the drum but I am also aware that you prefer a pretty heavily muted sound.

I knew a drummer that used to wrap his drums in polyester (spandex). When I say he wrapped them what he did was basically make a "bottle cozy" for each drum. He then removed the hardware and stretched the fabric "tube" over each shell. I think this included the bearing edges so that the elastic ends fell inside the drum. I am not sure how he did the holes for his hardware but I suspect it involved a soldering iron to weld the edges of the holes. He re-finished his five piece kit every so often as he said it was a pretty quick process. It was funny to see what color kit he would have next. The polyester lays very flat as you can imagine and yet it has a bit of a natural sheen so there would be no need to clear coat it.

Again, I am sure this will have a negative impact on your drum sound but if this kit is for your own enjoyment at home you may actually like the additional muting. No glue, no mess. Just a thought. It is also VERY reversible.

thanks Scott, that is actually a good idea, i will keep this method in mind. i have been thinking going with a fabric, that way i could change it if i wanted too. and do like the idea of no glue or worry of mess to clean up. yes i do like the more muted sound and yes at this time my drumming is pretty much for my pleasure only but maybe some day share with others, just gotta get the confidence.

once the drums get here and i can see what is under the turf, i will know which way to go then.
