New to VDF, Have a question about a Vintage Ludwig Kit Last viewed: 6 minutes ago

Looks like a Downbeat kit with a Pioneer snare drum to me. If it's a Jazz Festival snare drum, then you can add a couple hundred to the value....(although I prefer the sound of a Pioneer!). Need some pics in this regard!

Don't buy new lugs to replace the vintage lugs! They are not exactly the same. They may fit the same holes, but the casting shape has changed a little. But it's never a problem to find the proper vintage lugs, T-rods and claws. You'll have to pay a little bit for some nice ones.

Nice, vibrant gold color to that one as far as I can see. Keep them out of the sun or they will fade to a dull beige.

Probably not calfskin heads during that era. Likely the original WeatherMaster heads, though. They can be saved and cleaned up. You can replace them with regular modern heads to play them, but don't get rid of those original heads!

I'd say a very good deal for a gold sparkle Downbeat with matching snare drum, etc.!

That's good news. and to put it mildly, yes these are the drums that rock came from and are! and yes you have heard vintage drums on most recordings and I'm talking present day, in the studio this is what is used not what the drummer of said group is endorsing.

Sweet! That's what I wanted to hear, cause I'm not looking for furniture, I'm wanting a full time daily driver drum kit

I must`ve wacked my head a little too hard this morning,...there`s no way that`s a 20" kick,...it`s more like a 5" kick !!

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

Haha, it does look small in that last picture compared to everything else around it, I was thinking the same thing

On the first page,..second photo,...that bottle of wiskey, or wharever it is, is behind the floor tom and taller than it !! I got a 18x16 floor tom and if you put a bottle of wiskey behind it, it wont even come past the leg mounts !!

Yea, that's a big bottle, probably one of those oversized party bottles they sell down here at liquor stores and on cruise ships, I got a couple of those here at home, or at least I hope that's what it is. Trust me I'll be ****ed if I get to this guys house and this kit is the size of my sons jr. Kit or a scale model lol

Well that`s prolly an oversized wine glass to go with the bottle, and a huge coffee mug for the hangover, not to mention the drum sticks tower over the bass drum !!

Yea those oversize wine glasses are fairly common, that is actually a beer stein beside it not a coffee mug, but there is a regular coffee mug behind it. He put his sticks in the T-rod on the kick I guess to look like where Ringo had his in that beatles poster on the wall. Don't see much difference there, besides Ringo's looking like a 22" kick, 20" kick drums are small, what do you expect?

The guy just sent me some more pics, anyone know of any other questions I might ask before I take the trip over to go check these drums out?
