It's a sweet kit, but I see some greed. Original auction looked to be on the way to topping $2,000.

Usually that set came with the matching clear snare. For big money, that's the only one I'd get.

I've never seen that set in any configuration other than 22 12 13 16.
Greed is exactly the case here, I emailed the seller and asked him why he pulled the auction early, he said he had a local buyer and didnt want to ship them, he now he does this, I would not buy it now if I won the lotto

My Phantom set has arrived, and I'm in the process of doing an inventory of what needs work.
The most obvious things are the bass drum hoops, followed by some minor rust issues on some hoops, lugs, claws, and tension rods. No surprises, the kit's condition was as advertised.
The kit is otherwise in playable condition with relatively new Pinstripes and Diplomats on the toms. I'll probably eventually replace the Pinstripes with Ambassadors, but there's no hurry. Shells have the typical scratches you would expect from 39-year-old drums, but look great from 15 feet away. There's one minor crack on the FT (also as advertised) that I had to look hard for to find. For $850 shipped (with superb double boxing), I'm very happy.
I haven't set them up yet, but from light tapping around the apartment, I can tell they're going to be thunderous. When I have a chance, I'll A/B them against the Vistalites.
I plan to mount the toms on the Super Set-O-Matic post that I use with my Blakrome set ... I can only play one set at a time! That means that the seams will be visible, but with the lugs mounted as close to the seam as possible, it probably won't be noticeable to anyone but the most knowledgeable cognoscenti.
I'll be meeting with a restorer to see what he can accomplish and what parts I'll need to buy. I'll post a list once I know more. I'm pretty sure that parts and labor should still keep the kit under $1,500.

The detailing of the Phantoms is complete. I picked them up Saturday morning and gigged them that night.
It turns out that no parts were required: The bass hoops were repainted, rust was removed from various points around the kit, mainly in the tension rods, and some bearing edge work was done on the 13" and 16" toms.
Including the detailing, my outlay for this kit is $1,150.
I retained the Pinstripe/Diplomat heads that came with the kit. Our gig was outside with no mics and they more than held their own with the bass and guitar amps. Toms were not muffled and the bass drum felt particularly good with just a small folded beach towel that didn't touch either head.
I'll post pictures once I learn how to use the camera I'll be buying tomorrow.

I sold some stuff to a local guy who claims to have a phantom snare.I think I have his e-mail if you want me to rattle his cage on a possible sale. He made it sound like it was his first snare, but everything has a price right?

Sure. Send a PM. Thanks.
I'm currently using a clear Vistalite snare with it, but I'm probably going to sell the Ludwigs now. I'll admit to having a Slingerland soft spot, but having played both the Vistalites and the Phantoms outdoors, the Phantoms just seemed to have something extra ...
I'm waiting for video to determine if this is just in my head.
