Gold inlay looks great with the green..

Why not to try brass hardware instead of gold? This should not cost a fortune...

I've already spent just under $4000 getting these drums to this stage. I'm not prepared to spend more. In fact....when I do decide to sell them I would be asking about $2500....and that still is more than most would want to pay. I would have to find just the right buyer for these or I'd be giving them away....more or less. I know you generally do not recoupe what you spend on the darling little vintage drums we love so much....so I'm okay with taking somewhat of a hit. These drums are a lot better in real life and if someone is looking for some Gretsch 3ply 50's shells with a nice paint job and beautiful hardware....these are them. Just for fun a week or so I looked around on ebay and other sites and came up with a price on parting the shells and hardware out. I did not include the $1500+ paint job...and I came up with $2400...for the shells/tom&snare&bd Hoops/badges/tension rods/lugs and the rest. That $2400 was a middle-of-the-road pricing. That's where I came up with the $2500....have to ask at least $100 for paint job. I'd be happy with $2500 and someone that's looking for exactly these drums would be getting a good deal....no work restoring etc.....ready to hit the pavement.

GOLD. Wasn't that the original Gretsch color insert for that color set?

I believe it was gold because these drums (50's Cadillac Green) came with Gold Hardware. You could 'special order' the drums in Chrome Hardware but I don't know what inlay they used with the Chrome. I know the modern Cadillac Green kits (the 125th Anniversary sets and Steve ferrone's Signature Series come with Gold Sparkle BD inlay...and his hardware is Chrome.

Has anyone here seen a 50's cadi green kit with Silver Sparkle

There`s no other Gold on the kit. If you had the Gold trim, the Gold would be the way to go. The green don`t match the Caddy green hoops.

The only way to go is the Silver sparkle. It goes with the hoops on the rest of the kit.

The Gold looks horrible.

Just my opinion.

Well - don't think the gold looks horrible....to me anyway...but some, including you OddBall, have suggested it.

Here's one hoop on the drum so far.......

I think it looks good. Hard to get what it really looks like in a photo....I'm not a photographer...I try.

That`s what I would go with. It`s perfect, matches the head ring, trim and stands.

That is sharp looking.
