Ribbed Aluminum Slingerland Snare Last viewed: 1 minute ago

From Vipercussionist

It's most likely NOT brass, it's just a deviation of the No140 aluminum student model. Most likely to put out to compete with the slightly better 8 lug Acrolite offered by Ludwig.I too HAD an 8 lug model, (shoulda KEPT that one) seems even though it wasn't cataloged (not a rare occurrence by far) there were enough of them to go around as I've seen quite a few of them, at least the 8 lug versions. There were many instances that the catalog wouldn't cover something that didn't last long enough, or came out AFTER the catalog was released. Isn't the first time and it won't be the last time a catalog was wrong or incomplete.

As I posted, I also have an 8 lug NON RIBBED aluminum. Researching the badges online put it (I think) in the 1964-67 range. Am I way off? How can I tell if my hoops are brass? It still has the original 16 strand snares on it. Any advice on ways to "supercharge" it?

magnet will test the hoops for you. magnet wont stick if they are brass but will if they are steel.

Too funny this thread comes back to life just when I get mine. Any finish is possible but far as I know Slingerland copper was only a wrap over wood.

Hey, Kevins hope all is well. You still have this one? It is/was an early #140 only changes I see on my later one is tone control is at 6 when badge is at 12 o-clock and COS rims.

Slingerland called many drums Student. When in fact they are 8/10 lug drums. Matters not, great drums still selling well below true value.

Nothing special here but I like them.
